Ennis will take care of anyone that’s in his way.

Last weekend was an important one for Jaron Ennis. Boots fought for the first time in over a year and came out victorious, getting the stoppage against David Avanesyan and defending his IBF welterweight belt.

Before the fight took place, Ennis had mentioned that he still wants to fight Terence Crawford – whose belt he got without fighting him – at some point. That would be an ideal next opponent, but that’s unlikely with Crawford currently at another weight. Surprisingly, Ennis seemed open to the possibility of fighting Manny Pacquiao, who is eyeing a return to the sport at 45 years old.

Boots Ennis doesn’t understand why Pacquiao might get title shot

But following his win over Avanesyan, Ennis threw some cold water on that possibility, and also took a bit of a dig at PacMan.

I don’t know how Pacquiao is coming back and getting a world title shot. But I really don’t care, as long as I can get my hands on all the other belts and be able to unify, then become undisputed. Then I really don’t care what’s going on. I think it’s crazy that he’s coming back. I mean, it’s a good name to have on your resume. As long as he isn’t in my way.

Pacquiao has been rumored to be a potential opponent for Mario Barrios, who currently holds the WBC welterweight belt. Pacquiao has certainly earned the right to big fights given his extensive resume and career, but he’s 45 years old and hasn’t beaten anyone since 2019.

It sounds like Ennis doesn’t think Pacquiao should get that title shot immediately. But if he does and he gets the belt, Ennis is willing to run right through him on his way to undisputed glory.
