This is what Vice Ganda said about religion that caught attention online.
VICE GANDA – The It’s Showtime host made again another impactful thoughts about religion and its role in the people’s lives.
They say religion serves several functions in the society. Among these functions include giving meaning and purpose to life, social control of behavior, promote physical and psychological well-being, and motivate people to work for positive social change. One thing a religion must do is to divide the people.
However, in the viral coming out love story in “EXpecially For You” in It’s Showtime, religion became one of the many reasons why it took him a lot of years to admit that he is gay. It even reached a point that he needed a straight relationship just to prove to the people around him that he is not going to hell because he is straight.
But all of those were just a cover up. He was raised believing that gay people go to hell. He brought this all his life but there was so much that he could do until he couldn’t do it anymore.
In that episode, host Vice Ganda spoke about religion and he shared his thoughts about him. The superstar comedian said that all religions came from love, empathy, compassion, kindness, and respect. He then urger the people to reassess their belief if in their religion, they were made to discriminate based on gender.
“Walang relihiyon na nagtuturo sa mga tao na magkaroon ng poot,” Vice quipped based on the video.
He could relate to the part where the man has to project that he is a real man. However, it did not justify his actions that hurt the woman. The decision to do it stemmed from the fear of judgment as he too, gone through this similar situation.
