Julia Barretto opens up about 'taking accountability' after 2019 controversy with Gerald Anderson

Years after the controversy involving her now-boyfriend Gerald Anderson and his ex-girlfriend Bea Alonzo, Julia Barretto is in a much better place.

In an interview with Toni Gonzaga, the actress agreed that 2019 was the “noisiest year” for her, and that she struggled to navigate it as a 22 year old.

Julia said that “you have to take accountability for, anong naging role mo sa chaos na ‘yun.”

Asked what her role was in that chaos, Julia readily admitted that she’s sure she caused “somebody else’s pain, in the same way that they also contributed to my pain.”

“But I think, you know na okay ka na when you already acknowledge na baka I have a role in this, baka may shortcomings din naman talaga ka, baka I really did something that hurt somebody,” she said.

She added that she herself was “super” hurt at the time.

However, she reiterated that she and Gerald were not together at the time, despite allegations that she was a third party in Gerald’s relationship with Bea.

“Hindi kami noon,” she said. “I can’t say that he was a partner to me.”

“We navigated this in our own ways,” she added.

Toni also asked Julie about “hugging photos.” Although they didn’t name names, Julie went viral last month for being spotted hugging and laughing with Bea at an event.

Julie said that she values that moment.

“It’s a really real moment, ‘di ba, kasi syempre it was messy, kapag na-iron out ‘yun kahit konti, it helps,” Julia said.

“Maybe to fully close it para lang alam mong the people in the past you were able to close that with them, hoping that it also gives them peace,” she added.

Gerald and Julia confirmed their relationship in 2021.

Both denied that Julia was involved in Gerald and Bea’s breakup in 2019.
