MANILA — Visitors and casual bystanders of Luneta Park were surprised to see Kapamilya actor Joshua Garcia walking around the park on Monday, June 3. Aside from gamely posing for photos, he also handed out a hundred fruitcakes.

Garcia is currently promoting his latest movie “Fruitcake” together with other Kapamilya actors Kaila Estrada, KD Estrada and more.

He also surprised onlookers and students at the University belt area.

Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Garcia compared this barkada movie to the iconic 2002 Filipino teen comedy-drama movie “Jologs.”

“Masaya to. Sobrang comedy. First time kong mag-comedy and pang-barkada. Masaya siyang panoorin pag kasama mo ang friends mo,” he said. “Hindi lang ito isang storya. Marami siya. May istorya ko, may sari-sarili kami and eventually magdidikit-dikit siya sa dulo, para siyang ‘Jologs.’”

Since it’s his first time to dabble into comedy, Garcia is hoping he delivered and gave the comedy flavor justice. “Sa tulong ni Direk naalalayan naman ako, so sana matawa ang mga tao,” he said.

Garcia’s part of the movie will tackle on love life.

Meanwhile, we asked Garcia on his take on his own barkada in real life, particularly how he manages his friendship with ex-couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

Despite the break-up of his closest friends, Joshua has maintained friendship with the two.

“Kasi pantay-pantay ako sa barkada ko eh, walang lamangan. Buti na lang may respeto lahat. Hindi sila ‘yung matampuhin. Matatanda na rin naman sila and they’ve remained matured,” he explained.

“Doon naman din ako pumoposisyon. Ayoko rin naman nang may kagalit, mahirap din eh. Ang liit lang ng industriya namin tapos may kagalit pa, or mag-iiwasan pa kayo,” he added.

“Fruitcake” opens in cinemas on June 12.
