Ron Harper is not a fan of Anthony Edwards’ controversial comments.

Ron Harper Was an Elite Scorer Before Joining Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls - Sportscasting | Pure Sports

Anthony Edwards had received a whole lot of praise from all corners of the basketball world over the last few months, but he is now getting hammered. Edwards bizarrely claimed that Michael Jordan was the only skilled player of his era and Jordan’s former teammate Ron Harper became the latest former player to clap back at him.

“Stop feeding into nonsense respect your peers that played before you. This is like saying what’ve my mom and dad done for me?”

I struggle to imagine how Edwards didn’t realize that these comments were going to generate this kind of reaction. He definitely needs to show the ones who came before him a little more respect. The only reason why he has become a multi-millionaire by dribbling a basketball is because those former players paved the way for him.

I firmly believe that today’s players are more skilled than the ones in the past, but I would never go as far as to say they weren’t skilled at all. Icons like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, and so many more were ever so skilled and became great players because of that.

What also made those comments from Edwards seem even worse, was his stating that he didn’t watch those games back in the day, so he can’t speak on it. For him to then add that no one else was skilled apart from Jordan was just ridiculous.

Edwards should have just kept his mouth shut if he didn’t know, instead of shooting himself in the foot there. Glen Rice, another former NBA player, echoed that sentiment too, when he replied to Harper’s post.

“Sometimes when you don’t know what you’re talking about it’s best to not talk, to say back in the day players had no skills is very naive. Give respect to those who paved the way for us all.”

It did come across as Edwards being very naive. I hope he thinks twice before opening his mouth next time around.

Jamal Crawford Reacted To Anthony Edwards’ Comments

Former Net Jamal Crawford staying ready ... in case that final call comes - NetsDaily
Jamal Crawford is someone who is rather qualified to talk about different eras, having played in the NBA from 2000 to 2020. Crawford experienced some of that old-school basketball and also the three-point explosion in the late 2010s. He was asked about Edwards’ comments on X and had an interesting reaction to them.

“I got love for Ant, love everything about him. But there was wayyyy more skilled players besides Jordan lol. On another note, a bigger conversation should be how it’s been such a “this or that” culture. Driven by media and social media. That now in this time period – people are questioning legends and pioneers of the game . It’s one of the wackest things out right now…”

A lot of legends of the past are being disrespected today, mostly by young fans. Tracy McGrady even called out Gen Z for disrespecting Michael Jordan, but I doubt anything is going to change. This is just the culture that exists in social media now, which is a shame. People love tearing others down more than anything else, and I think that is a reflection of society as well.
