Plus, find out her make-up must-haves!
In an interview with PEP.ph, Liza Soberano emphasized the need to end make-up-shaming and allow everyone the freedom to express themselves: “I’m sure a lot of people, the average person and the everyday human being that wears make-up, uses make-up for that exact purpose, too, to give them some confidence and just to make them feel their best. And I don’t see why anyone should shame people for wanting to feel their best.”

While more people are now open to using make-up, negative opinions on those who do still linger.
Liza Soberano believes it’s time to put an end to this negativity and allow everyone the freedom to express themselves.
Liza shared her thoughts about “make-up shaming” in an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
She said, “I just, I think that’s very odd. Make-up is almost like, well it’s not almost, it is just like within any other art, um, like an avenue of expression.
“It’s just on a different canvas. It’s on human beings.
“So, just like with art, you use different colors to express, to evoke like a mood or an emotion or a certain type of energy and that’s what make-up is for most people.”
Liza believes there’s no issue with individuals wearing make-up, particularly if it enhances their self-confidence—something she personally enjoys for a confidence boost.
The Lisa Frankenstein actress continued, “They use it as, for me, I use it as a safety blanket.
“Something that gives me confidence and courage to face any, I don’t know, challenge that is thrown my way or any character that is given to me…
“And I’m sure a lot of people, the average person and the everyday human being that wears make-up, uses make-up for that exact purpose, too, to give them some confidence and just to make them feel their best.
“And I don’t see why anyone should shame people for wanting to feel their best.”
PEP caught up with Liza at the BYS Multiverse of Play event, where she and Niana Guerrero were officially introduced as the newest faces of the brand.
LIZA SOBERANO: ALL ABOUT MAKE-UP
PEP also took the opportunity to ask Liza some make-up-related questions.
When asked about a beauty trend that she currently loves, Liza said she has been putting blush on her under-eye area.
She said, “Well, a beauty trend that I love I would say is… I really love like blush underneath the eye. That’s my favorite thing right now.
“When I do my make-up in L.A., I always put it underneath my eye and up. I feel like that placement makes my face just look smaller than it already is.”
When it comes to trends she avoids, Liza mentioned that she isn’t a fan of shaving her eyebrows.
She explained, “The one that I would avoid trying, I think shaving my brows. In any way, like making it thinner, shaving them off completely, adding a slit, anything.
“I just don’t want to touch my eyebrows.”
If she could wish for a new make-up product to be invented, what would it be?
Liza answered, “A make-up product that doesn’t exist yet, but I wish it did. Mascara that curls your lashes already.
“That way you don’t have to use an eyelash curler. It just is one thing that you put on your eyelashes.”
LIZA SOBERANO’S MAKE-UP MUST-HAVES
Given her on-the-go lifestyle and constant travels to different countries, PEP asked her current make-up must-haves.
Liza mentioned three multi-tasking items from the BYS Hybrid Hero line that combine make-up with skin-care benefits.
She said, “Three BYS products that I can’t live without would have to be from the Hybrid Hero line ’cause that’s the one that I’m the most familiar with right now…
“The cheek tint, I really love their cheek tint. Their coconut peptide lip oil, I love that one so much, and their mascara.”
Liza named the Hydration Boost x Multi Cream as her go-to cheek tint, available for PHP499.
