The Spice Girls have celebrated David Beckham’s birthday by suggesting he is at the behest of their demands – while also sharing a festive snap of him.

The footballer – who is famously married to 50-year-old Posh Spice herself Victoria Beckham – has turned 49-years-old and has been receiving congratulatory notes throughout the day.

And the official Spice Girls Instagram account got in on the act to wish the sport star many happy returns.

The chart topping group shared a snap of David wearing a Spiceworld Christmas jumper and posing with his arms outstretched.

The purveyors of Girl Power also joked that Dave is a mere lacky for them – undertaking an unexpected job for the group as they claimed he is in charge of their social media.

Uploading the image to their Stories on Thursday, the iconic girl group – which also includes Mel B, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Horner – wrote:

“Happy Birthday to our unofficial social media manager and one of the original Spice Boys,” alongside a winking emoji and a red heart emoji.

The post came after Victoria had already gushed over her love for the man she has been married to since 1999. The singer-turned-designer celebrated her own landmark 50th birthday last month – with a lavish party taking place in London and attended by A List guests including Tom Cruise and Eva Longoria.

Sharing a post about her husband, Vicky wrote: “Happy birthday David. I love us getting really old together! You aren’t far behind me!!!! You are our everything!!!! The best daddy and husband we all love u so so much xxxxx @davidbeckham @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham #HarperSeven.” The couple share four children together – with 25-year-old son Brooklyn, 21-year-old Romeo, 19-year-old Cruz, and 12-year-old daughter Harper Seven.

The footballer’s kids also showered him with love on his birthday. Brooklyn shared a snap of himself as a toddler and sitting on his dad’s shoulders on the pitch and wrote: “Happy birthday to the best dad in the world x love you so much dad.” Romeo also shared a throwback snap and wrote: “Happy birthday dad thank you for everything love you always + forever.”

Cruz himself shared a string of images via Instagram Stories and wrote simply “Happy Birthday” – while Harper does not have social media accounts of her own as yet. David’s old team, Manchester United, also shared a tribute, uploading a number of images and writing: “Wishing a very happy birthday to @DavidBeckham,” alongside a number seven emoji and a birthday party face emoji.

Last month, Victoria paid tribute to her husband as she celebrated her own 50th birthday. She wrote online at the time: “I believe that you can be many things. A pop star, a mother, a wife, a designer… My passion has always been to dream big, then dream even bigger! Believe in yourself first — everyone else will follow. And if you’re really lucky, you’ll find someone who believes in you even more than you do. @DavidBeckham, I’m forever grateful for your unconditional love and support, and for our beautiful children.”
