In the recent episodes of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” we’ve witnessed how Tanggol (Coco Martin) and friends have begun relishing the new, abundant life that they’ve been dreaming of. While we’re still quite unconvinced that these aren’t real since their abrupt prosperity appears too good to be true, we would like to believe that they deserve it because of all the challenges that they went through.

And in this edition of Friday 5, let’s look back on five of the most heartbreaking moments of Tanggol that probably made viewers shed a tear or left us crestfallen over the past year that the series has been on air.

Starting off this list was the distressing encounter between Tanggol and his adoptive father Rigor (John Estrada), wherein the latter caught the former fleeing from the crime scene. However, instead of firing at him when he had the chance, Tanggol chose not to pull the trigger and attempted to run away. Since he’s a morally upright policeman, not to mention that he’s eternally resentful at Tanggol, Rigor didn’t let him escape and fatally shot him twice.

Because of what happened, Tanggol couldn’t help but lament on how Rigor has consistently mistreated him ever since he was young. In one of his conversations with his friends in prison, he emotionally blamed himself for everything and concluded that he might deserve the situation he was in. However, he still wished that the time would come that he would feel his love.

Since he considers Mokang (Lovi Poe) as the greatest love of his life, Tanggol’s heart completely shattered when she tragically died after being shot by Olga (Irma Adlawan) during their skirmish with the group of Ramon (Christopher de Leon), a.k.a. Alberto. Due to the extreme pain that he felt, Tanggol began to question God for allowing this to happen to Mokang and to him.

Just when he thought that his family would be delighted to see that he’s already free, Tanggol was welcomed instead by an angry Rigor, who ruthlessly beat him up and dragged him down their house with the help of his younger brother David (McCoy de Leon). The arrival of Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) and Santino (Ronwaldo Martin) at the scene might have brought hope to Tanggol, as he expected her to defend him, but he only got completely upset after his mother asked him to leave for everyone’s peace.

And lastly, we’ve witnessed how totally devastated he was when his beloved friend, Bubbles (Ivana Alawi), was killed by David, which remains unbeknown to Tanggol until present. He expressed the pain he felt by firing shots and running along the seashore filled with garbage. This further fueled his resentment and wrath toward the world, not to mention his desire to exact vengeance against the people who crossed him and the people dear to him.

With all the painful experiences that he went through, we can say that Tanggol is deserving of the lush life he and his friends are living at present.

Will Tanggol face another heartbreaking event in his life? Well, that’s for us to find out, so you better not miss an episode of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” weeknights at 8 p.m. on Kapamilya ChannelKapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
