David Licauco straight-up denied another controversy he is currently being linked to.

He strongly expressed his stance on allegations that he is using Kathryn Bernardo to gain more popularity in the showbiz industry. The notion that David was using Kathryn’s name for clout sparked from his recent snaps with the actress during an event, and also because of an interview wherein the Kapuso actor expressed his dream to work with her on a future project.

Days after his short interview mentioning the Kapamilya star, showbiz insider Ogie Diaz directly asked the actor for his thoughts on the issue. David informed Ogie, “Hindi naman sa sasakay ako or something,” noting that it was never his intention to “ride into” Kathryn’s fame.

David argued that he has always been a fan of Kathryn. Additionally, he insisted that he only spoke the truth. “I think I’m just being true to myself na siguro like I was looking up to her before. Noong bata ako, siya yung pinapanood ko. So actually ‘dun sa interview na I had, eh talagang sinabi ko lang kung ano ‘yung dream ko.” 

David clarified that his status as a celebrity nowadays does not actually guarantee any possibility for a project between them; pointing out once again that it was just his dream and he has gotten to know Kathryn by watching her past movies.

“Doesn’t mean that it will happen, doesn’t mean naman that it might happen. I’m just saying kung ano ‘yung dream ko talaga… Kasi pinapanood ko silang dalawa ni Daniel Padilla. Noong 2014, kasama ko ‘yung girlfriend ko at that time sa sine, pinapanood namin. Siyempre ngayon, sa interview, sasabihin mo lang ‘yung totoo,” David explained.

Although the two have not yet been given the chance to work together in a film or series, David and Kathryn’s paths have crossed recently since they endorsed the same fashion retail brand.

ICYMI, they also had a photo together post-event and the internet went crazy over it. Netizens clamored to see the two as lead stars in a romance film. Others even asked if they could be paired as a love team because of their so-called *strong chemistry.*

“Hala ang lakas ng chemistry niyo… Pwede po sila na lang love team? Sobrang lakas makahatak ng madlang people,” one netizen commented. Many fans pointed out how much *chemistry* they felt from Kath and David.

Some even tagged Star Cinema and directly requested a film for the two celebrities, despite the two coming from different managements. Kathryn just re-signed under Star Magic, which has been her home for over a decade. David, on the other hand, is a homegrown talent of Sparkle GMA Artist Center.

David, who is now one of the rising actors in the entertainment industry, is enjoying a steady career growth. After his breakthrough role in Maria Clara at Ibarra, a movie with his love team partner Barbie Forteza, and now starring in an upcoming new historical teleserye with distinguished actors, David is setting his eyes on bigger and more challenging roles.

In a quick chat with the press, David conveyed his desire to have a film under Star Cinema. His reason? David also grew up watching Star Cinema films. So when he finally acknowledged his determination to be an actor, it became his *dream* to star in a Star Cinema project.

Starring in a Star Cinema project despite being a Kapuso is not impossible. We’ve seen it happen. Kathryn was one of the Star Magic talents who had a collaboration or crossover project with a GMA actor, namely Alden Richards.

Kath and Alden formerly worked together on the blockbuster Star Cinema film Hello, Love, Goodbye in 2019. Meanwhile, Star Cinema also produced the blockbuster film Rewind, which was top-billed by two Kapuso A-listers — Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes.
