Janet Jackson is opening up about how she is coping with the loss of her late brother Michael Jackson 15 years after the King of Pop’s death in June 2009.

Janet Jackson – the 58-year-old Grammy award-winning singer – spoke to the BBC about their 1995 collaboration on the song Scream.

It was the King of Pop’s first major release following the 1993 child molestation allegations that significantly affected his life and career.
Janet is currently on her Together Again tour, where she performs Scream alongside a screen showing footage of her late brother.

She shared that she still gets emotional “listening to Michael sing every night, seeing him.”

Janet looked back on the creation of the song and said: “Mike and I wrote that song in New York, in his apartment.”

Janet reminisced about “that whole journey, listening to him sing” and recalled “what he was going through at that time” as he sought to rebuild his reputation and career amid damaging allegations.

“I’m your sister, always by your side and be your support. That’s always been my role,” Janet said.

In the song, Michael expressed his frustration with the allegations and media coverage of the issue.

In the Lifetime documentary series , Janet said of her late brother: “Mike went through a lot and I think that affected him.”

The song “Scream” reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 after 17 weeks on the chart, winning Best Music Video at the 1996 Grammy Awards.

King of Pop Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50 from cardiac arrest after an overdose of the surgical anesthetic Propofol.
