Almost a decade after its last edition, “It’s Showtime” has brought back one of its well-loved segments, just in time for its 15th anniversary celebration this year – the “Kalokalike.”
And for its fourth season launched on Monday, September 2, three contestants immediately wowed us not just with their respective resemblances to two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, to his girlfriend Chloe San Jose, and to GMA 7 actor Ruru Madrid, but with how they impressively portrayed them. In the end, it’s Carlos Yulo’s impersonator Andres Santos that won in the pilot episode.
As we look forward to seeing the next episodes of “Kalokalike Face 4,” let’s revisit the winning performances of the grand champions from the previous editions in this feature.
The first-ever winner was Quezon City’s Jonathan Garcia, the lookalike of veteran actor Christopher de Leon. During the grand finals in June 2013, Jonathan enthralled us with his impressive reenactment of one of the actor’s most notable scenes from the 1991 film “Ipagpatawad Mo,” which he topbilled alongside Star For All Seasons Vilma Santos.
For “Kalokalike Face 2 Level Up,” it was Jennifer Catayong of Pasay City who shone the brightest for her compelling impersonation of Hollywood rapper, singer, and songwriter Nicki Minaj.
Just on her debut on the “It’s Showtime” stage, she immediately astounded us basically with how she’s able to completely mimic the “Queen of Rap” from her face and the way she dressed to how she moved and spoke. But what amazed us the most was the level of professionalism she displayed, as she still chose to continue performing despite slipping on stage. Thus, it didn’t come as a surprise when she was hailed as the grand champion of the said season.
Since many people have been telling her that he has a striking resemblance with Vice Ganda, Daniel Aliermo of Davao City attempted to completely copy his idol’s hairstyle, fashion, and even voice in “Kalokalike Face 3.” During the grand finals, he performed Vice’s rendition of “Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita” and of her original song “Push Mo Yan Te,” as well as a concert-inspired performance of Lady Gaga’s “Applause.” In the end, he was declared the “Ultimate Winner” in the grand finals in 2015.
