The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on August 14 that it is monitoring two tropical storms outside the country’s monitoring area (PAR).

According to the PAGASA weather bulletin, severe tropical storm Ampil is currently 1,785 km northeast of northernmost Luzon with sustained winds of 95 km/h and gusts of up to 115 km/h.

Meanwhile, tropical storm Wukong is 2,935 km northeast of northernmost Luzon with sustained winds of 65 km/h and gusts of up to 80 km/h.

Ampil is moving northeast at 20 km/h, while Wukong is almost stationary.

PAGASA said tropical storms have not affected the country’s weather so far.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to affect some parts of Luzon.

The southwest monsoon brings scattered rains and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Cloudy skies with scattered showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Flash floods or landslides may occur due to these weather conditions. Seas are light to moderate in the next 1-2 days.
