On their premiere episode titled “How We Met,” Gabbi and Khalil recalled how their relationship started. The pair first met at Julia Barretto’s debut in 2015. Khalil admitted that the moment he first saw Gabbi enter the venue, he curiously asked his friends about Gabbi.

He said, “I was taken aback because you were glammed up. She really illuminated the place for me,” Khalil said in Filipino. “And then I was coming from a place where my friends were teasing me that I was single and suddenly there’s this girl walking in with her hair dressed in a low ponytail.”

After being introduced to each other, Khalil never left Gabbi’s side that night and accompanied her during the party and asked for Gabbi’s number before parting ways that night.

“We started texting. We had a pretty deep connection,” Gabbi shared. “I liked how we talked that night so when you asked for my number I gave it because I really wanted to talk to you.”

Unfortunately, Khalil was put under the friendzone category since Gabbi was trying to fix a broken relationship with an ex-boyfriend. “Right away, I said, ‘I’m kinda trying to patch things up with my ex,’” she said.

“I wanted to fix it. I was trying to fix things. Khalil told me, ‘Yeah, no problem. Let’s just talk.’”

She added, “That time I had a love team, I was doing a soap. I was super new in the showbiz industry, I was climbing my way up.”

Despite their platonic status, Gabbi and Khalil became good friends.

“We were not like, “Have you eaten, what’s your ulam?'” Gabbi said.

Khalil added, “It was at that stage I was discovering my real passion in life, which I now know as storytelling. I wanted to do indie films and become a film actor. I wanted to gain respect as an actor. She met me at that time. I would talk to you about life in a very deep sense. I was sharing to her the philosophies that I believed.”

Gabbi revealed, “Somehow that helped me cope and renew my mindset about life. It was a big factor why my ex and I got back together.”

It was then that their friendship started to fizzle out.

“He has his own stuff to do, I had my own stuff to do. So, slowly, it was fading away. We used to text everyday hanggang sa hindi na kami nag-text,” Gabbi recalled.

Two years later, in 2017, Gabbi reached out to Khalil. “I kinda was shy to text you but I did anyway,” Gabbi said. “And you replied right away, ‘Oh yeah, I have tickets.’ And then, ‘How are you na? It’s been so long,’” she added.

“I had no intentions, I just wanted to ask for tickets,” she said.

Khalil responded warmly, and the two rekindled their friendship. He said, “And we never stopped texting, talking, interacting from that day on ’til present.”

The couple celebrated their relationship anniversary on February 22, the day Gabbi messaged Khalil for those tickets, a date they both chose since they don’t have a formal anniversary date.

Looking back, Gabbi and Khalil realized that though their relationship took a while to progress, everything fell into place at the right time.

Gabbi said, “Maybe it wasn’t the right timing yet [in 2015].”

“We had so much to figure out,” Khalil said in agreement.

Just two days after its official launch, Gabbi and Khalil’s “Figure It Out” has already reached the second place in the top podcast lists in the Philippines and the third place in the top podcast episode.
