Rappler.com’s latest storm report refutes widespread reports of a super typhoon near the South China Sea.
Information about the super typhoon near the East Sea was spread by a YouTube channel, which emphasized that, according to the latest weather report, warning signal No. 4 had been issued due to super typhoon Enteng.
The title of the video reads: “Super typhoon Enteng is very strong! Signal No. 4. Latest weather update on August 26, 2024”. The video used audio from the 4 a.m. weather forecast of PAGASA on August 26.
Based on the weather forecast issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 4 p.m. on August 26, there are no tropical storms monitored within the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR). Super typhoons are the strongest type of tropical storms.
PAGASA forecasts scattered rains and thunderstorms in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao due to the southwest monsoon or habagat. Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will have localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA weather expert Obet Badrina also confirmed that there is no super typhoon or any other type of tropical storm within the PAR.
Badrina only said that there is one tropical storm being monitored outside the PAR – Typhoon Shanshan. The last time, Typhoon Shanshan was 1,469 km northeast of Northern Luzon. Typhoon Shanshan is not expected to enter the PAR as it is heading towards Japan.
Based on current data, PAGASA does not see any tropical storms developing within or entering PAR in the next few days, Badrina added. There are no low pressure areas near the South China Sea being monitored by PAGASA.
The most recent tropical storm in the Philippines was Tropical Storm Dindo (Jongdari), which left PAR on August 19.
