A thunderstorm swept through Paris on Thursday evening (August 1), with the weather seesawing between heat, humidity and rains on the first week of the Olympic Games.

Scattered rain showers were observed across the city, punctuated with thunder and lightning.

The Games’ opening ceremony was a wet event, with spectators and athletes drenched in rain.

Rainy episodes the past week also led to the postponement of the men’s triathlon event, which finally took place after the women’s triathlon on Wednesday (July 31).

Paris is expected to be partially cloudy on Friday (August 2), and progressively sunny, with a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius (80.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Thirteen departments in southeast France are on the second highest heat waves alert for Friday (August 2).
