Earlier this month, Liza Soberano explained her deliberate decision to not post photos of herself and boyfriend Enrique Gil on her social media accounts. She explained that it was her conscious effort to separate herself from being identified as part of a love team.
Liza shared that she had a career scare a while back. She revealed that Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards’s hit film Hello, Love, Goodbye was first offered to her and Enrique, but they couldn’t do it since another project was lined up for them.
However, she later found out it was offered to Kathryn and Enrique.
The thought that there was a possibility for the LizQuen tandem to split up, even for a single project, was a wake up call for Liza.
“I realized, oh my God ang dami kong hindi nagawa sa career ko,” she recalled. “And that’s why everybody takes for granted my talent or acting capabilities because they have only seen me in a love team.”
Liza has since been vocal about going solo and navigating a career abroad. Part of that major career move was rebranding herself as a solo artist and not as half of a love team.
“A love team is a phenomenon only created and existing in the Philippines,” explained Liza. “And to box a woman like that is so dangerous actually for their mental health and so for their growth. Not just as a professional but as an individual. So I stay away from that.”
Liza rose to fame after being paired with Enrique on the ABS-CBN series Forevermore way back in 2014. She stayed on as part of the LizQuen tandem up until she left Star Magic in 2022.
In a recent interview, Liza voiced out her apologies to Enrique.
“I feel like I should say sorry to Quen for not being as understanding, or for not being able to see through his struggles because I was struggling at the same time too,” Liza admitted.
Her going off on her own as an artist did not cut her ties with Enrique, though. The two are still a real-life couple, and Liza reains grateful to Enrique for supporting her.
“I want to say thank you because he was very understanding of the whole situation,” said Liza. “He supports me with everything that I do.”
She has nothing but gratitude for the way that Enrique has been by her side all these years.
“He’s always been a good friend, good boyfriend, and everything that I could [ever ask for] amidst my success,” shared Liza. “He was the person that I got to share it with in that way.”
Despite her recent realizations on having a love team, Liza doesn’t discount the good that the LizQuen tandem has brought her.
“It was a good experience,” Liza affirmed.
A lot has changed in Liza’s life since March last year, but she is open to the challenge. She is enjoying rediscovering herself, knowing that she is actively working on her personal growth.
“I didn’t realize how different I’ve become. I’ve been doing so many big things and I’ve been experiencing so many changes in my personal and professional life,” said Liza. “Yes, it’s fast, it’s complicated at times, but it’s fun and totally worth it because I feel like I’m growing into a person that I’m proud of, being able to do things that I could only imagine before.”
