Helping the United States to a 103-86 victory against South Sudan, James joined two of his favourite teammates in Olympic history.

The Los Angeles Lakers great surpassed 300 Olympic points in the first half.

James is now one of only three men’s players to achieve the feat, joining Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony.
‘Olympics Melo’ famously scored 37 points in just 14 minutes against Nigeria in the 2012 London Olympics.

Durant, who owned the court against Serbia in Sunday’s opener, is the all-time leading Olympic men’s scorer for Team USA.

James is getting closer to both of his friends while aiming for his third gold medal.

After a rough 2004 which ended with a bronze medal and stunning 19-point loss to Puerto Rico, The King won gold in 2008 and 2012.James entered the 2024 Olympics averaging 11.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 60.1 per cent from the floor and 37.9 per cent on 3-pointers in 24 Olympic games.

Time keeps ticking but so does James in the Olympics

While James is on the verge of passing the torch to a new generation of players including Anthony Edwards, he was Team USA’s best option during recent games in London, and paired with Durant to dominate Serbia.

“He’s just got such an incredible competitive spirit and confidence in the clutch,” USA coach Steve Kerr exclusively told talkSPORT.

Despite playing an exhibition against South Sudan, the 39-year-old was eager to return to the hardwood.

“I don’t think he was real thrilled about me not starting him in the third quarter,” Kerr said.

“I looked down a couple of times and I can see LeBron jumping up a bit to be out on the floor.”

Kerr also referred to James as ‘brilliant.’

After entering the NBA in 2003 as the Chosen One and No. 1 overall pick of his home state Cleveland Cavaliers, James is still in classic form and now is part of Olympic history with two USA teammates that helped him define an era of basketball.

In London, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and a 20-time All-Star said that ‘work’ has been at the core of everything that he’s been able to accomplish in a career that will certainly end up in the Hall of Fame.

“When it comes to confidence, I think there’s no substitution for the work,” James said.

“You just have to put the work in. If the sport of basketball is what you want to do and you have a passion for it. You love it.

“You have to put the work in. Find ways to play the game, find ways to train, find ways to get better.

“Watch the game, study the game, and I think it all pays off. When you give to the game, the game automatically gives to you.”
The career hard worker finished with 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and one steal in a 17-point victory over South Sudan that pushed the USA to 2-0 in group play and clinched a spot in the quarterfinals.
