Daniel Padilla joins forces with John Arcilla, Jerrold Tarog in a psychological suspense thriller

For the first time, the Supremo leading man of his generation, Daniel Padilla, will be teaming up with internationally acclaimed Kapamilya actor John Arcilla in a formidable film bound to awe us in the cinemas — a psychological suspense thriller entitled “The Guest”, which will be helmed by visionary director Jerrold Tarog.

The film, which is among the movies unveiled during the “New Movie Alert: Daniel” event on Thursday, April 27, will be produced by Black Sheep. Patrick Valencia penned the screenplay while Kookai Labayen will serve as creative manager.

Daniel expressed his admiration of dark-themed genre films, which enabled him to see himself taking on his role in “The Guest”.

“I’m a fan of thrillers, suspense, mindfuck. Matagal na akong fan nu’n,” he shared. Along with this creative interest, Daniel also looks forward to performing alongside a world-class actor in the person of John, for which he can only give thanks for John’s willingness to do the project with him.

“Sir John, thank you. Very excited ako gawin ‘tong film na ‘to kasi napakahusay [mo] na aktor,” Daniel said. “Kapag ganyan ang katrabaho mo, it just pushes you to do better pa also. So I’m just excited to do this film. Thank you, sir John, for accepting this project.”

The Venice Film Festival Volpi Cup for Best Actor winner is just as excited to work with Daniel in the upcoming movie.

“Sobrang saya, sinabi pa lang sa ‘kin yung kwento. First and foremost, Daniel Padilla is the number one heartthrob sa pilipinas. Isa sa pinakabatang best actor sa Philippines. So exciting, sobra,” John said.

Meanwhile, as described by Direk Jerrold, “The Guest” is a psychological suspense thriller with lots of “twists and turns,” so film lovers can literally expect the unexpected.

“Kind of imagining it as a modern film noir,” he explained. “And bilang nasa puso ko ‘yung kadiliman, medyo mindfuck na pelikula siya.”

“If anything, ang gusto kong makita, hanggang saan natin pwedeng dalhin ‘yung kwento,” he added, referring to working with Daniel in the film.

Even the screenwriter Patrick Valenica is more than ecstatic to see how Daniel will pull off his character in the movie.

“I’m so happy that it’s finally happening. Ang happy ko pa na si Daniel ‘yung gaganap dito sa pelikulang ‘to. Sobra akong na-excite kasi it’s my first time to be working with him and I’ve always admired him as an actor, so curious ako and very excited kung paano niya aatakihin ‘to and kung anong bagong experience [ang] ibibigay niya,” Patrick said.

While we have always admired Daniel as a charming leading man, this time, he will go “dark and different” with his character in the movie, according to Patrick. Creative manager Kookai Labayen also hinted that the project would explore something far from the Daniel we have always seen in movies.

“We’re gonna be playing around mysteries and secrets of the characters [in the movie], especially nung kay Daniel,” she teased. “Kilala natin si Daniel as a leading man, ni-redefine niya ‘yung leading man. ‘Yung nakita niyo kanina na smile, hindi ganun.”

“The Guest” will start filming this year and will premiere in cinemas next year.
