Director Cathy Garcia-Molina pointed out the similarity of the tandem of Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo to a popular ABS-CBN love team that she directed in the past.

She said about the still-untitled KathDen movie that will be produced by Star Cinema:

“The story is about strangers meeting. Di ba, strangers talaga sila?

“Ako mismo, tinatanong ko, ‘Paano kaya nila gagawin ang ganitong eksena? Paano kaya nila ipo-portray ang character?'”

The blockbuster director said in her recent interview with ABS-CBN News that she got excited about the project because this would give her the chance to work with a GMA-7 actor.

“For the longest time, kilala natin si Kathryn…someone I am familiar with.

“Ngayon, first time ko makatrabaho si Alden. Wala nga kong napanood na show ng batang ito. So wala akong ka-alam-alam. Sino ba si Alden?

“Ito naman baligtad: kilalang-kilala ko simula pagkabata. Nakakatuwa na bagong kuwento, bagong kombinasyon.

“Parang John Lloyd-Sarah ko.”

Direk Cathy was referring to the tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo that was first introduced via the 2008 movie A Very Special Love.

What was Alden’s first impression of his leading lady, Kathryn?

“Na-meet ko na si Kath sa mga previous meetings dati.

“Tingin ko talaga sa kanya, mabait, very accommodating, and sweet.

“Ngayon ko pa lang makikita yung sa trabaho: how is she working with me and how am I working with her. Dun ako exited.”

As for Kathryn, what did she observe about Alden?

“Nung kaninang pumasok siya, mukha siyang mature,” she said with a laugh.

“Kasi nung nagsalita siya, and ngayon ko lang siya nakausap.

“Sobrang saya ako na si Alden…

“Excited ako kung paano kami magtrabaho.

“Hawak kamay kami ni Alden. Tinatanggap ko ang project na ito with open arms and magtutulungan kami para gumanda ang project.”

This project marks a new chapter in Alden Richards’ career by getting a new leading lady on the big screen.

He was previously paired with Maine Mendoza when they became the AlDub love team starting on July 16, 2015.

As for Kathryn Bernardo, she formed the Kathniel love team with boyfriend Daniel Padilla for the past several years.

The Kapuso actor assured AlDub and Kathniel fans by saying:

“Sana suportahan ng mga supporters namin ni Kath and our fandom.

“Hihingin po namin ang pagiging open-minded nila.

“Dahil lahat po ng gagawin namin dito, purely professional.

“Trabaho lang po, walang personalan talaga.

“We want to tell a great story through the help of Direk Cathy and Star Cinema.”

Kathryn acknowledged that there will be those who might not immediately welcome this new development.

“Alam ko, nagulat sila. Yes, gagawa po ako ng movie with Alden and it’s under Star Cinema.

“Hindi namin ine-expect na lahat tatanggapin nila pero sana bigyan kami ng chance kasi napakaganda ng story namin. Sobrang excited kami na mapanood niyo.

“Aside sa pagiging open-minded nila, sana maging isa tayo para sa movie na ito.

“Alam ko may sinusuportahan ang mga fandoms namin pero hiningin namin ang cooperation ng lahat.

“Magiging mahirap siya, it’s going to be difficult pero bagong journey ito para sa amin ni Alden.”

Alden asked fans to give their movie a chance by saying, “Sana hawak-hawak tayong lahat.

“Let the project speak for itself.”
