Tom Brady and LeBron James were spotted having what seemed to be an awkward interaction at the Olympics in Paris.
James, 39, decided to return to the Olympics following Team USA’s world championship semi-final disaster defeat to Germany last year. Kevin Durant also returned in search of a fourth Olympic gold medal, and he has been joined by Olympic rookie Steph Curry.
Team USA will contest a quarter-final matchup against Brazil on Tuesday, with Germany, Serbia, and one of France or Canada waiting. Meanwhile, Brady, 47, is enjoying retirement from football and is in Paris to watch some of the Olympic events.
He was spotted watching Team USA gymnastics legend Simone Biles as the seven-time Olympic gold medalist fell short in the Balance Beam and Floor competitions. Brady appeared at a party honoring the 50th anniversary of USA Basketball.
A social media clip showed the two legends sharing a seemingly awkward interaction. James was standing to one side and smiling while his wife greeted Brady. “You guys have fun,” Brady could be heard saying. “Alright baby, good to see you,” LeBron responded.
Fans have reacted to Brady and James’ meeting. “Bron mad,” one joked. “Someone is lying about their height,” a second said, with Brady and James close to eye-to-eye. “Brons awkward as hell,” a third tweeted.
Thus far, the reigning Olympic champions have been in dominant form. A close scare against South Sudan in London in a warmup game shocked Team USA into life as they then went on to beat world champions Germany before heading to Paris.
James has been the leading figure in the team, still holding the torch ahead of the likes of Anthony Edwards and Jayson Tatum. They beat Serbia 110-84 in their Olympic opener, followed by a 103-86 win over South Sudan and a 104-83 victory over Puerto Rico, to set up Tuesday’s quarter-final against Brazil.
NBA and Team USA legend Charles Barkley has suggested the team shouldn’t be allowed back in the country if they don’t win gold. “Have the international teams gotten better? 110 percent,” Barkley started while speaking to Paul George on his ‘Podcast P’ show.
“Ain’t nobody bringing anybody off the bench better than Jayson Tatum. Ain’t nobody bringing anybody off the bench better than Kevin Durant.
“The international teams have gotten better, but there’s never an excuse for the United States not to win the gold medal. We got the best team, we got the best players by far… Listen, if they lose we can’t let them back in the country.”
