Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino set a new standard to love teams by keeping their chemistry as real and natural as it gets through their bond
ith a community inspired by the force of love, there is no denying that Filipinos adore the idea of romance. For this reason, love teams continue to thrive in our series and films. Besides a good project, there is one thing that makes a pairing stand out from the rest—Chemistry. And every now and then, a new love team comes and reels in an audience for their honest to goodness bond. It’s the kind of bond that can never be faked. Case in point, the one that Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino share.
After the success of their drama series Linlang, the actors are back to showcase a new side of their partnership with the Filipino adaptation of What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim. Leaving their darker characters behind, their new project will have a load of romance, comedy, and drama, making fans excited for their new sides. But before we witness their twist on the characters of Lee Young Joon and Kim Mi So, MEGA gives you a rundown of why Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino’s chemistry is as real as it gets.
A wish come true for Paulo
Since his transfer to ABS-CBN in 2011, it has been the actor’s dream to work with Kim. In an interview during his contract signing with the network, Paulo expressed his intentions of wanting to be in a project with the actress. After more than a decade, his dream finally came true through Linlang. The bonus part is having to work with the actress-host back to back with their newest project.
A share of firsts together
If Juliana’s Linlang was a challenge for the It’s Showtime host because of her character’s cunning and manipulative nature, it’s now time for Paulo to discover his new side with What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim. The original Korean series features a male protagonist who naturally brings out humor through his personality, a turf that Chiu is more familiar with than Avelino. For sure, this will be another fun collaboration for the two, with the “Chinita Princess” leading their dance of romance this time around.
A balance of opposites
One look at the pairing and one may wonder why their chemistry works. While there are love teams who thrive because they are two peas in a pod, Paulo and Kim make their partnership work because they are opposites. We all know and love the actress for her cheerful personality and infectious laughter. Meanwhile, we can’t help but be enamored by the actor’s mysterious aura and quiet personality. Through banters, teasing, and genuine friendship shared off camera, they were able to build a more dynamic partnership.
Contrary to the “teenage romance” beginnings of most love teams in the country, it is also refreshing to see more mature artists form an unexpected pairing that works for young and old audiences alike. And although it took a long while for the two to finally cross paths in a project, Kim and Paulo prove that apart from their chemistry, it’s the perfect timing that brought them together.
