Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos mourn the closure of this Japanese restaurant. Revealing the reason for the fade
Aside from being the place where Kapuso stars Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos had their first date, Ogawa is also well-regarded by foodies
Real-life couple and known foodies Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos are mourning the closure of this Japanese restaurant where “quality is king”.
In one of the more recent posts on her Instagram account, Gabbi posted multiple pictures of her and Khalil at the site of Ogawa Traditional Japanese Restaurant. The restaurant is closing its doors as part of the indefinite closure of Bonifacio Global City’s (BGC) The Fort Strip, which was first announced in December last year.
Aside from being the venue of Gabbi and Khalil’s first date, Ogawa has also received good reviews from publications. Tatler Asia described its teppanyaki as “perfectly cooked” and said it has “one of the best Japanese offerings in Manila”. Tatler Asia also named it as one of the best Japanese restaurants in its 2022 dining guide. The restaurant also has a four-star rating on Yelp and is considered by Chef Myke “Tatung” Sarthou as one of his favorite Japanese restaurants in the country.
First opened in 2015, Ogawa is owned by restaurateur George Pua with former EDSA Shangri-La Hotel Semju kitchen head Kiyoshi Ogawa as its chef.
It’s no surprise that Gabbi and Khalil are mourning the closure of Ogawa, as the couple are known foodies. Back in December, Gabbi and Khalil visited Logy, a restaurant in Taiwan that has two Michelin stars awarded to it. In the caption to the post, Gabbi wrote that Logy had “exceptional service” and “impeccable dishes” and that it isn’t a surprise that the restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars.
Two years ago, Gabbi and Khalil visited L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, another restaurant in Taiwan that also has two Michelin stars.
The couple has also been to AHA Saloon, which has been lauded for its “old-world feel” and features old vinyl records and vintage cassettes as part of its interior design. It offers rock and roll themed drinks with names like Welcome to the Jungle and Walk on the Wild Side. It was also ranked 24th in the 2022 list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars.
They have also been to Taipei’s Indulge Experimental Bistro which placed sixth in the 2022 50 Best Bars list. It’s drinks have been described as “brimming with imagination yet never out of step with its location.”
