Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes confirmed talks with 'It's Showtime' about its contract ending this December

GMA Network Senior Vice President Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes has issued a statement following speculations that GMA variety show “TiktoClock” will allegedly take over the slot of “It’s Showtime” as the latter’s contract is set to end this December.

According to Gozon-Valdes via GMA Network’s post on social media on Friday, GMA Network and “It’s Showtime” are currently negotiating the renewal of its contract.

“We are in the process of negotiations now for the renewal of ‘Showtime,’” she said.

The Kapamilya noontime variety show aired on GMA’s Good Television (GTV) in July 2023 after officially signing a contract with GTV a month before.

“It’s Showtime” then debuted on GMA Network’s main channel in April this year after signing a new contract with the network in March.

In October, the show celebrated its 15th anniversary, with its week-long anniversary special, “Magpasikat,” airing on GMA’s main channel for the first time.

“It’s Showtime” airs Mondays to Saturdays at 12 p.m. on GMA Network and GTV.

Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes confirmed talks with 'It's Showtime' about its contract ending this December

The future of the popular noontime show It’s Showtime remains uncertain as GMA Network’s Senior Vice President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide, and Support Groups, Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, confirmed discussions regarding the show’s contract, which is set to expire this December.

In a recent statement, Gozon-Valdes addressed ongoing speculations about the show’s fate on GTV, the secondary channel of GMA Network, where It’s Showtime has been airing since July 2023. According to her, negotiations between the network and It’s Showtime’s production team, ABS-CBN, are still underway. She emphasized that no final decision has been made yet, fueling intrigue about whether the partnership will continue or come to an end.

A Strong Start on GTV

It’s Showtime made headlines earlier this year when it transitioned to GTV after its contract with TV5 concluded. The move marked a significant moment in Philippine television history, as it brought together two rival networks, GMA and ABS-CBN, in an unprecedented collaboration.

The show has since maintained its loyal fanbase, attracting viewers with its dynamic hosts, entertaining segments, and celebrity appearances. However, despite its success on GTV, questions about its sustainability in this setup have arisen, especially given the competitive noontime programming landscape.

Atty. Gozon-Valdes on the Partnership

When asked about the possibility of extending the contract, Gozon-Valdes expressed GMA Network’s openness to further collaborations but acknowledged the need for both parties to align on terms. “We’ve had a fruitful partnership with It’s Showtime so far. The discussions now are focused on how we can move forward, considering the evolving needs of both the program and the network,” she said.

The attorney also hinted at the importance of assessing the show’s performance and the network’s programming goals. “At the end of the day, we want what’s best for both our audiences and our partners,” she added.

What’s Next for ‘It’s Showtime’?

As the contract’s expiration date approaches, fans are left wondering what’s next for It’s Showtime. Some speculate that the show might explore other platforms or return to its previous home on TV5, while others hope for a renewed partnership with GTV.

ABS-CBN, which produces It’s Showtime, has not released any official statement regarding the matter. However, insiders suggest that the company is actively exploring various options to ensure the show’s continuity.

Challenges and Opportunities

The potential contract renewal comes with both challenges and opportunities. Renewing the partnership with GTV could solidify the groundbreaking collaboration between GMA and ABS-CBN, proving that networks can work together for mutual benefit. However, navigating such a partnership requires careful negotiation, especially in a highly competitive industry.

On the other hand, if It’s Showtime decides to move to another platform, it may face the risk of losing some of its current audience while potentially gaining new viewers in a different setup.

Fans Rally Behind the Show

Amid the uncertainty, fans of It’s Showtime have taken to social media to express their support for the show and its hosts. Many are calling for the renewal of the contract, highlighting the joy and entertainment the program brings to Filipino households.

Conclusion

As December draws near, the fate of It’s Showtime hangs in the balance. Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes’ confirmation of ongoing talks offers hope for a resolution, but it also underscores the complexities of such partnerships in the ever-evolving television landscape.

Whether the show continues on GTV or finds a new home, one thing is clear: It’s Showtime remains a beloved part of Filipino pop culture, and its fans eagerly await the next chapter of its journey.
