Wedding photos were taken and preparations were completed, but on the wedding day the groom did not show up, the bride’s family threatened to kill the groom.
This funny story is still making the public surprised, not knowing whose side to take.
Recently, a Thai woman filed a lawsuit against her boyfriend for abandoning her right before their wedding day. The most noteworthy thing is that the details surrounding the case are complicated and extremely “dramatic”, causing endless public discussion.
According to information published in The Thaiger, the incident occurred in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, southern Thailand. On Wednesday, March 12, Ms. Nack, 34 years old, went to Chauat police station to file a lawsuit against her 33-year-old boyfriend, Mr. Ton, accusing him of defrauding her of 500,000 baht (equivalent to about 380 million VND).
The groom did not appear on the wedding day, the next day the bride went to the police station to file a lawsuit
The incident is believed to have started because Mr. Ton did not show up for the wedding ceremony scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 11, even though the rings, wedding dress, food and other decorations had been fully prepared.
Ms. Nack cried at the police station, saying that she met Mr. Ton on social media. They dated for about a year and a half before deciding to get married. Ms. Nack’s family asked the groom’s family for a dowry of 300,000 baht in cash (equivalent to about 230 million VND) and nearly 100,000 baht worth of gold jewelry (equivalent to about 75 million VND), and Mr. Ton agreed.
Nack explained that Ton had previously worked as a saleswoman at a paint company but had quit with plans to open her own paint shop after the wedding. However, while Ton was unemployed, he used her money for personal expenses. Ton also borrowed her car and motorbike, then pawned them for cash.
Despite Ton’s actions, Nack continued with her plans to marry him, but her frustration grew. On the day of the wedding, Nack said she tried to contact Ton in every way possible, but he ignored her. Nack went to his house to find Ton, but he was not there. His family claimed that Ton had been injured in a motorcycle accident, but when Nack checked every hospital in the area, she found no evidence of him being treated there.
Story from the “groom’s side”
Mr. Ton later spoke to ThaiRath to explain his story. He claimed that when he was a salesman for a paint company, he gave Nack 10,000 baht (equivalent to 7.5 million VND) every month to save for his wedding. After he quit his job, he lost his income and had to borrow money from Nack. However, he did not sit at home and went to find work by catching and selling shrimp.
Nack and Ton’s wedding outfits were prepared but the wedding did not take place.
Ton explained that the wedding had been planned within the budget they had worked out together, but Nack’s family kept interfering. Ton also claimed that he collapsed in the bathroom the day before the wedding and was rushed to the hospital. The doctor advised him to stay in the hospital because he had torn a tendon in his leg, but Ton insisted on leaving to attend the wedding the next day. The doctor gave Ton permission to leave at 6am the next morning.
But while Ton was being treated, more than a dozen members of Nack’s family came to the hospital and confronted him. They reportedly threatened to kill him and his mother if he did not attend the wedding. He said he was confused but assured them he would go. However, the threats continued, and Nack’s family continued to call him, prompting his mother to report the death threats to the police. Fearing for his safety and that of his family, Ton decided not to attend the wedding.
Ton asked Ms Nack to clarify the 500,000 baht that she said he had “defrauded”, as he also contributed to the wedding expenses, including giving her 20,000 baht (equivalent to about 15 million VND) at her request.
Ton admitted that he had previously called off a wedding with another woman but explained that he had to do so because he discovered she had been having an affair with one of his close friends.
Ton insisted that he would never go back and marry Nack after the incident, adding that he had been under a lot of stress due to the public condemnation. Meanwhile, local police have yet to provide further details about the incident and Ms. Nack has not yet made a statement.
