Who Is Cynthia Carrion? The Gymnastics Philippines President | Preview.ph

The spotlight on Carlos Yulo has taken a new turn as the two-time Olympic gold medalist faces an unexpected family drama. Cynthia Carrion, President of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP), has stepped forward to address the growing rift between Yulo and his mother, Angelica Yulo, which has recently made headlines. Carrion has been actively trying to mediate between the estranged family members and shed light on the situation.

In a recent interview, Carrion revealed that Carlos Yulo is perplexed and distressed by his mother’s decision to go public with their family issues during his high-stakes competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The tension escalated when Angelica Yulo posted a provocative message on social media, “Japan parin talaga… Lakas!” This was followed by an interview with the media, just before Carlos was set to compete for his second gold medal.

According to Carrion, Carlos had already forgiven his mother for past grievances and had hoped to reconcile with her after the Olympics. “Carlos was shocked and hurt by the timing of his mother’s media appearances. He wondered why, at such a critical moment, would she create such a stir? It almost felt as if she wanted him to fail,” Carrion explained.

Despite the public fallout, Carrion believes that Carlos’s perception of his mother’s actions might be misguided. She has been working diligently to bridge the gap between mother and son. “I’ve been trying to talk to Angelica and encourage her to reach out to Carlos. At the same time, I’ve also been speaking to Carlos, urging him to reconnect with his mother. My goal is to mend their relationship because, for me, family is crucial,” Carrion stated.

Carrion acknowledges that reconciliation will take time and that Carlos might need space to process his feelings. “Angelica seeks acknowledgment, and it’s important for Carlos to have some time to cool down. I am committed to doing everything in my power to help them reconcile because family bonds are incredibly important,” she added.

Ultimately, Carrion understands that the decision to reconcile must come from Carlos himself. “I cannot force Carlos to reconcile with his parents; it has to come from his heart. I am just here to facilitate the process and offer my support,” she concluded.

As the gymnastics community and fans look on, the hope remains that Carlos Yulo and his mother can resolve their differences and focus on the positive achievements and support each other as a family.
