Nesthy Petecio vows to give it all when she faces Poland’s Julia Szeremeta on Wednesday in the semifinals of the women’s boxing 57kg class in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at the North Paris Arena.
With the crucial guidance of her coaches Don Abnett and Elmer Pamisa, Petecio aims to advance to the gold medal round in their 3:45 a.m. encounter (Manila time).
Petecio’s determination is fueled by her recent unanimous decision win over China’s Xu Zichun on Sunday. This victory has set the stage for her upcoming bout with Szeremeta, who made history by becoming the first Polish boxer to secure an Olympic medal since 1992, following her unanimous decision victory over Ashleyann Lozada Motta in the quarterfinals.
Before this, Petecio triumphed over India’s Jaismine Lamboria and France’s Amina Zidani in earlier rounds, leading to her showdown with Szeremeta.
Petecio emphasized her reliance on her coaches, saying, “Naniniwala kasi ako na ‘pag ‘yung gustung-gusto mong makuha, hindi binigay ni Lord, may mas magandang purpose po siya.”
