Andrea Brillantes was forced to be a quiet K-pop fan due to online hate • PhilSTAR Life

Andrea Brillantes has opened up about receiving “a lot of hate” in the past for fangirling about her favorite K-pop and K-drama moments.

On her Instagram page, the actress took the time to pen a lengthy message about her experience as she reflected on attending Kim Soo-hyun’s fan meeting last June 29 at the Araneta Coliseum, where she caught everyone’s attention with her standout bridal attire.

“A few years ago, I decided to stop being super vocal about my interest in the K-drama and K-pop industry. I experienced extreme backlash when I was a kid for simply sharing my fangirl moments from groups and series that I loved, and I received a lot of hate,” Andrea wrote.

Because of this, she decided to refrain from posting about her love for Korean media and “remain a quiet fan from afar.”

“It’s been seven years since that traumatic experience, so I feel like I have more courage to share my fangirl moments now that I’m already 21 and not 14 anymore,” she wrote.

She continued, “I know people will still have a lot to say, but I’m just too happy to finally have seen Kim Soo-hyun because I’ve been following him since I was 13, and he’s literally my number one big Korean crush ever since.”

On her viral outfit for the fan meeting, the local star shared that she initially just wanted to go for a simple look of a cardigan and skirt.

“But while getting ready, I don’t know what made me say this, but I asked [my stylist], “Ate, do you have a wedding gown?” Kaya kulang props ko kasi last-minute decision pero naitawid padin!” Andrea said as she thanked her glam team for making her “look like a beautiful bride.”

She ended her post with a funny yet sweet message to her idol Soo-hyun: “Last shoutout sa asawa ko po, miss na kita eme! See you ulit pagbalik mo (sana). Mag-wedding gown pa rin ako hanggang sa magtabi tayo sa sa picture charot (sana).”

“One of the happiest days of my life, as in huhu. Feel ko talaga kinasal ako, kahit nga di na siguro ako ikasal eh happy na ako dito charot. We love you Kim Soo-hyun!” she added.

Soo-hyun has starred in hit K-dramas including Secretly, Greatly, My Love from the Star, The Producers, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, One Ordinary Day, and most recently, Queen of Tears.
