Many Filipino celebrities have expressed their sadness over the breakup of former power couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. Others like Alden Richards from whom nothing was heard about the split, were still asked their opinion.

During the grand media conference of their Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) movie “Family of Two” on Sunday, Alden was asked if he had heard about the split of his former onscreen partner Kathryn with her longtime boyfriend Daniel.

“Yes, opo naman. Nagulat po ako. Pero uunahan ko na po kayo hindi po ako magcocomment sa kahit anong questions about it.” said the actor.

When teased about fans’ shipping him with the actress as both of them are now single, Alden offered his respect to the former couple.

“Ako po parang respeto ko na lang po sa kanilang dalawa if I just keep quiet po about this issue. Pero sa ngayon, they deserve the space that they need to go through,” the actor affirmed.

Alden and Kathryn’s first onscreen team-up for “Hello, Love, Goodbye “was a massive success, making fans wonder if there’s another project that might be waiting for the two celebrities to reunite.

“Ayoko pa rin po magcomment pero baka galing po ‘yun sa success ng ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye.’ Si Kath naman po and I are good friends so kumbaga we’ll never know po what the future holds.”

Despite their KathDen shippers, the 31-year-old actor said that he doesn’t want to get dragged into the issue, and keeping tight-lipped about it will save him the bashing.

“So ‘yun nga po medyo mainit ‘yung topic baka maisali po ako ulit at ako ang mabash. Ayoko na po nababash tatahimik na lang po ako sa issue na ‘yan.” Alden said.

“Hello, Love, Goodbye” saw the charming chemistry between Alden and Kathryn as they complemented each other’s acting abilities on screen. The film was declared the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time after earning roughly ₱880.6 million in worldwide gross revenue.

Fans have shared their sentiments online that celebrities should not get asked about KathNiel’s breakup, which was also what happened to Nadine Lustre. However, the fans were glad both Alden and Nadine handled the question with such respect.

After months of speculations, Bernardo and Padilla confirmed their breakup on Nov. 30 in separate Instagram posts. According to the actress, the two of them had been drifting off for a while before their split confirmation.

Concerning the rumors that a third party was involved, Daniel or the alleged party, Andrea Brillantes, has yet to speak up.

Meanwhile, Gillian Valencio, who was also dragged into the controversial split, took to social media to debunk the hearsay about her and Daniel.
