Gerald Anderson has played a variety of roles over the years, and this time he’s stepped up as Julia Barretto‘s supportive boyfriend.
The 35-year-old actor talked about his thoughts on Un/Happy For You, Julia’s much-awaited reunion project with Joshua Garcia. The two were a former love team pairing (JoshLia) and had also dated in real life. In fact, Joshua was Julia’s ex before she started dating Gerald.
Un/Happy For You comes five years after their 2019 breakup, four years after Block Z (their last movie together) was released, and three years after they starred in Moira Dela Torre‘s music video for her 2021 hit “Paubaya.” So JoshLia’s big screen comeback was definitely exciting news for those who followed their love team in the past. “It’s exciting. It’s exciting para sa mga fans. I’m not sure kung ilang years sila nagkasama, but I’ve been in that situation,” Gerald stated.
He acknowledged that aside from JoshLia’s impact on their fans, Joshua and Julia’s acting chops would make an amazing project together. “Alam ko na marami silang mapapasaya na mga fans nila. And they are both great actors so alam natin na magiging quality ‘yung ipapalabas nilang proyekto,” Gerald said.
Gerald and Julia made their relationship public in 2021. Since then, the couple have been enjoying a steady yet low-key love life. Meanwhile, Joshua is currently dating Filipino-French athlete Emilienne Vigier. She’s been spotted leaving *likes* on some of the promotional posts for JoshLia’s upcoming film, too!

This is not the first time Gerald has shown full support for Julia’s career decisions. The actress once shared that her boyfriend has always been supportive of her, as long as she’s comfortable and happy with her projects—that’s what Gerald would often remind her.
Julia noted that Gerald’s only request was that she would do projects “tastefully and gracefully.” “You know he’s always supportive as long as comfortable ako sa ginagawa ko. As long as feeling niya masaya naman ako. I think ang pinaka-request niya lang is ‘yung sana tastefully, gracefully pa rin siya gagawin. The same request from my family, my siblings, and si Mommy,” Julia said in an interview.
