JoshLia fans are getting spoiled at this point. In a month, Un/Happy For You—the comeback of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barreto as a love team—will premiere in cinemas. Right now, they’ve been treated to a clip where Josh and Julia do their version of Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita. The Instagram Reels post may have just been a teaser, but it gave everyone an idea: Why not turn this remake into a reality?
Fans Clamor For A Remake Of Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita From JoshLia
Can JoshLia Recreate The Magic Of Rico-Claudine?
Star Cinema recently published a clever post on Instagram Reels ahead of the August 14 debut of Un/Happy For You. In it, Joshua and Julia reenact a scene from Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita, a film starring Rico Yan and Claudine Barretto. It’s that *kilig* dialogue and one of the most memorable scenes in the Rico-Claudine verse.
The 1998 film saw Claudine as Mela and Rico as Miguel. Mela is a bratty girl who is set on capturing the heart of geeky Miguel.
As of press time, the Reels post has over 29,000 likes. More striking is the number of comments who wish this version of Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita come true.
One Instagram user even suggested that Josh and Julia star in a remake of Got 2 Believe, a landmark movie in the Rico-Claudine lore.
Another commented that having a JoshLia teleserye wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Got 2 Believe is the last film starring Rico and Claudine together. Rico tragically passed away a month after the movie’s release in 2002. In the rom-com, Rico and Claudine find a fairytale ending as he plays a wedding photographer who doesn’t believe in love, while she’s a wedding coordinator who’s the perennial bridesmaid.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about JoshLia fans, it’s that they don’t stop until they get what they want. Years after Josh and Julia broke up, they held on to the hope for a reunion—even just onscreen—and now in 2024, they finally got it.
Un/Happy For You is directed by Petersen Vargas and deals with the complicated feelings of both lingering love and active despair for a former flame.
