Just as the controversy appeared to be settling down, more people are joining the conversation about Emman Atienza, the daughter of TV host and entrepreneur Kim Atienza.
Emman recently gained widespread attention after participating in the “Guess the Bill” trend with her friends at a high-end Japanese restaurant, where the final bill exceeded P130,000. The video sparked backlash, with many criticizing it as an insensitive display of wealth.
In response, Emman deleted the video and posted another, clarifying that the dinner was a joke and they didn’t actually pay for the extravagant meal.
But she didn’t stop there. Emman stood by her right to spend her money however she chooses, acknowledging her privileges but asserting that it’s not her obligation, as a teenager, to redistribute wealth. She also referenced celebrities like Taylor Swift, BTS and Nadine Lustre, questioning why they aren’t criticized in the same way, despite earning and spending far more than she does.
This comparison didn’t sit well with fans of those stars. BTS’s dedicated fanbase, ARMY, was quick to respond, citing the group’s charitable efforts and humble beginnings. Likewise, a netizen came to Lustre’s defense, expressing offense at Emman’s remarks.
Now, some are cautioning Emman that the backlash could intensify if Taylor Swift’s passionate fanbase, the Swifties, gets involved.
