Showbiz is not short of celebrities who have equally artistahin siblings.

There’s Kim Chiu and sister Wendolyn, Rhian Ramos and sister Nadine, Carla Abellana and her ate Erica, and the list certainly goes on.

Joining the fray is Kapamilya young star Andrea Brillantes and her pretty sisters Kayla Aan and Nina Gorostiza.

Of the two, Kayla Aan is recognizable to showbiz fans and social media savvy netizens.

Her resemblance to Andrea is uncanny, with many saying the two can pass as twins.

She may not be in showbiz but Kayla Aan, to her credit, has her own set of followers and a growing following, thanks to the power of social media.

Her Instagram account, which she started in 2014, has 184,000 followers to date.

Meanwhile, her YouTube channel boasts of more than 76,000 subscribers despite having just five videos since she started the channel in late 2021.

WHAT’S WITH THE NAME?

Kayla Aan was born on November 5, 1998, and her name comes with an interesting back story.

Her father Byron Gorostiza initially wanted to name her “Kalayaan,” but opted to give it a bit of wordplay.

Kayla Aan shared the story in a video she posted on YouTube in October 2021.

“Instead of Kalayaan, ni-jumble siya ng dad ko, so ginawa niyang Kayla Aan,” she revealed.

Kayla Aan revealed on her vlog that her childhood dreams were simple.

“Ang dream job ko talaga nung bata ako is dalawa lang, e. It was either a housewife, yeah gusto ko lang talagang maging mom. Pag tanda ko, gusto ko mom lang ako, tutok ako sa kids ko.”

She continued: “Then gusto ko maging lawyer. Attorney Gorostiza, di ba ang ganda pakinggan?”

Kayla Aan was homeschooled before college, and she was at a loss about her college plans.

Eventually, it was her parents and grandmother who decided to enroll her in San Beda University.

She said, “Madami akong relatives na [from] San Beda talaga.”

In 2019, Kayla Aan graduated from San Beda University with a degree in marketing.

“I don’t regret going to San Beda and taking marketing at all. It was the best four years of my life,” she said.

“If hindi mo alam ang course na kukunin mo, take a business course. Because the goal is to be your own boss, always,” she advised her viewers.

NOT FOR SHOWBIZ

Did Kayla Aan get offers to join showbiz like her sister?

“May nag-offer na ba sa akin? Yes, of course,” said Kayla Aan.

She tried auditioning only once, but she was never confident about her looks.

Kayla Aan described herself as “fat” and “ugly” when she was a kid.

“Ako yung pinaka hindi exposed sa ganun. Pero yung mga kapatid ko nag-audition sila madalas sa mga commercial, mga extra, model,” she recalled.

“Nung pumayat naman ako nang konti nung high school, pinag-workshop nila ako nung time na nag-hu-homeschool ako. Pero hindi talaga, e.”

Andrea, explained Kayla Aan, “was born to do that [showbiz].”

She is also extremely proud of what Andrea has achieved in her young showbiz career.

Kayla Aan continued: “Yun talaga yung dream niya, gustung-gusto niya. So, siyempre para sa kanya worth it lahat ng stress and pagod.

“Pero for someone like me, no, it’s not. Hindi ko siya kayang panindigan. Hindi ako makakapag-commit. Hindi siya madali.”

However, Kayla Aan joined Andrea as the face of a popular feminine sanitary pad in 2021.

CELEBRITY CRUSH

Kayla Aan considers Kapamilya actor James Reid as her showbiz crush.

“’Di ba sabi ko ayoko mag-artista? Pero alam niyo, kahit maging extra lang ako sa show niya papayag ako,” Kayla Aan said with a kilig tone.

“Hindi ako na-sa-starstruck sa mga artista, pero siya talaga. I don’t know why.”

She met James back in 2018, a moment that was captured on camera and posted on her Instagram account.

Kayla Aan’s admiration for James is simply that of a crush as she currently has a boyfriend.

“Ngayong pandemic lang ako first time bumili ng face powder…’tsaka nagka-boyfriend kasi ako. Nakakahiya naman di ba kung mukha akong gusgusin lagi,” she said about the change in her beauty routine.

As for her plan for the next ten years, she said, “By this time meron na ko sigurong two kids and a very, very happy family. Complete, no annulment, no divorce, that’s what we strive for.”

She also dreams of putting up her own foundations to help stray animals and abused men, women, and children.

Maybe by then, Kayla Aan will also be a celebrity in her own right. We just have to wait and see.
