The 2024/25 NBA season promises to be a pivotal one for the Los Angeles Lakers, with the spotlight firmly on LeBron James and his son Bronny. But it’s not just the James duo that’s generating buzz. Austin Reaves, often seen as a supporting player in the Lakers’ lineup, is excited about the potential of playing alongside the iconic father-son duo.

“For LeBron to just put himself in position to play with his son, it’s special. I know he will be motivated to play at his peak level. For me to be around them and to see what it’s going to be like, that’s going to be very cool for me,” Reaves shared during a press conference in Manila, where he was announced as the newest ambassador for Arena Plus.

Reaves, 26, has faced challenges with consistency but remains optimistic about the Lakers’ prospects. He pointed out the team’s competitiveness in last year’s playoffs, stating, “I think that we have what we need to go compete for a championship.”

“You look back at the Denver series last year, and I forget the statistics, but I think we’ve led for like a 140 minutes to their like 38 minutes or something that we get beat (by) 5,4,1, which you can’t even really wrap your mind around,” Reaves recalled.

Reaves is determined to make an impact
The new season will also see the Lakers under new courtside management with JJ Redick at the helm. Redick’s catch-and-shoot approach could be particularly beneficial for Reaves, who is eager to prove his value.

“I use it as a tool to show that no one can bring you down. You can just elevate yourself,” Reaves commented, reflecting his determination to make an impact.

While the Lakers have lagged behind in the trade market, adding only Bronny James and Dalton Knecht, Reaves remains hopeful. Bronny’s mixed performance in the Summer League has already garnered attention, but the team’s real test will come on the court.

The coming season will answer many questions about the Lakers’ future. Will they find the winning formula, or face another disappointing season? For Reaves and the Lakers, the stakes have never been higher.
