Violet-eyed star Elizabeth Taylor wrote her close friend Michael Jackson a tearful letter in 2009, expressing the pain in her heart when death separated them.
The letter was first revealed in the memoir released on December 6, Elizabeth Taylor: The Grit and Glamour of an Icon by author Kate Andersen Brower.
“My dear Michael, I hope you know how much I love you – and miss you so much. You are always in my heart and thoughts. I feel like there is a scream tearing at my soul. I mourn, drown in pain. When will I see you again? I love you so much and always will. Your Elizabeth”.

According to the book’s author, Elizabeth Taylor was unable to attend the public memorial service for Michael Jackson at the Sptaples Center in Los Angeles because she did not want to “show her grief” and Jackson would not have wanted to see her like that. However, the legendary star attended a private funeral a few months later and said goodbye to Michael in tears. Unable to cope with her grief, Elizabeth wrote her late friend a letter expressing her feelings.
Michael Jackson died suddenly on June 25, 2009, after taking an overdose of painkillers at his home. According to the biography, when she learned that Michael had been taken to the emergency room, Elizabeth began to panic and called his assistants. Finally, she was told the terrible news by an assistant. “Taylor became hysterical and kept screaming, ‘It can’t be! It can’t be!'” the book says. She had to be comforted and held for hours after the shocking news.
The death of Michael Jackson has severed a 25-year friendship between two entertainment superstars.
The soulmate friendship of Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson
Taylor and Jackson have a close friendship despite their 26-year age gap. The two stars bonded over being thrust into the spotlight at an early age: Taylor began acting at age 8, while Michael began performing at age 5. Both had abusive, physically abusive fathers who pressured them to become famous.
The two met in 1984, when Taylor’s illustrious career was on the decline while Jackson was a new phenomenon. The two became close after the death of actor Richard Burton – the beloved ex-husband of the Queen of Egypt star .
Taylor once said affectionately of Jackson: “There was something about him that was so dear and childlike – not childish, but childlike – that we both had and identified with.”
Their mutual friend, singer Lionel Richie, who is interviewed in the book, revealed that he once asked Jackson why his friendship with Taylor was so important to him, to which the pop star replied: “She understands me.”

Michael Jackson was so close to Liz Taylor that he often invited her to his Neverland ranch. At the ranch, they “picniced together, two broken adults trying to recapture their stolen childhoods,” the author writes.
Jackson also confided: “We try to escape and fantasize. I can really relax with her because we’ve lived the same life and experienced the same things.”
The two artists loved the same things: circuses, amusement parks, and animals. Michael had them all at his estate. The King of Pop even brought his chimpanzee to visit Taylor’s house on occasion.
In 1991, Michael let Elizabeth Taylor use his estate as the venue for her wedding to Larry Fortensky, a construction worker 20 years her junior. It was the eighth and final marriage of the Hollywood beauty icon.
When a journalist compared Jackson and Taylor’s friendship to that of Peter Pan and Wendy in the fairy tale, the pop star said: “But Elizabeth is like a mother – and more. She’s a friend. She’s Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, the Queen of England, and Wendy.”
Elizabeth Taylor’s wholehearted protection and support for Michael Jackson
In 1993, Michael Jackson was charged with 10 counts of child molestation. The case was later dismissed in a controversial trial. Elizabeth Taylor stood by Michael, believing in and supporting the singer during this difficult time.
According to singer Lionel Richie, Elizabeth Taylor also helped Michael Jackson fight his addiction to painkillers for many years. “If she hadn’t been in his life, disaster would have happened to Michael Jackson much sooner,” Lionel shared with the author of the book.
In 1993, Elizabeth secretly took Michael to rehab in Mexico City when his condition became serious. Andersen wrote that after a concert, the star “escorted Michael to his private dressing room and convinced him to go to treatment.”
The actress arranged a plane for Jackson but did not tell the pilot where they were going to avoid revealing the information. When they arrived, a staff member posed as the pop star to distract the press. Meanwhile, Taylor and Jackson secretly checked into a rehab facility.
According to author Andersen, members of the Jackson family were very angry with Elizabeth because they did not want him to admit his addiction. The Heal the World singer’s life was very tightly controlled at that time.

During that time, Elizabeth Taylor was also struggling with her own addiction. Her housekeeper Bernadeta Bajda revealed: “I cried all the time when she asked for medicine. Sometimes she wanted to drink. They told us not to let her drink, so we hid it very high and she couldn’t find it. She was very desperate and tried to find it.”
On March 23, 2011, Elizabeth Taylor passed away at the age of 79 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The film legend breathed her last breath after many years of battling illnesses, including congestive heart failure. She was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in California, near Michael Jackson’s grave.
