Lesson learned': Julie Anne San Jose apologizes for controversial church  performance

Kapuso singer and actress Julie Anne San Jose recently particpated in a fundraiser in Occidental Mindoro, but that caught the ire of many netizens.

The primary reason being San Jose’s outifit and choices of song during the concert, which was held inside at the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Shrine the province.

Reports and videos circulating indicate that the ‘Limitless Star’ performed a couple of songs, such as ‘Dancing Queen’ by Swedish group ABBA and ‘The Edge of Glory’ by popstar Lady Gaga, among others.

“I am offering my apologies. Even though my only intentions were to share joy and to give support to the church through the benefit concert, many have felt offended about the incident I was in and with my performance which caused distress,” Julie Anne wrote in her public statement.

“I truly, sincerely apologize. This is a lesson learned and it is assured that it will not be repeated,” she added.

The singer then asked and prayed that “we can all move forward with compassion in our hearts.”

Her management, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, then claimed responsibility over her appearance at the event and explained that Julie Anne “only fulfilled her duties and commitment as a true professional.”

“She is a devout Catholic and had no intention of disrespecting the Church and its members. We are truly sorry to those we have offended,” Sparkle wrote before offering their apologies to Julie Anne.

Rev. Fr. Carlito Dimaano, who is the Parish Priest, had also issued his side on the matter and claimed “full responsibility for all that happened at this event.”
