Kyline Alcantara opened up about her recent bout with acne, unveiling photos of herself that showed how bad her breakouts were.
The Kapuso teen star shared them on Instagram and accompanied them with a lengthy narrative.
According to Kyline, her breakouts started with “one zit” in March of last year. “Then it became two, until I can’t count them anymore,” Kyline began.
She said it got worse in the last quarter of last year, when both her cheeks were punctured with so much acne.
It hit Kyline hard. “Imagine, people are always expecting you to be at your best, to look perfect, to look like the polished girl that they always see in TV and magazines, but you can’t even look at yourself in the mirror.”
Kyline admitted to crying about her problem “because at the back of my head, ‘how am I gonna face them?'”
She coped by wearing caps, covering the sides of her face with hair, and putting on concealers and using foundations, for which she got bashed and bullied.
“I was judged, I was bashed and bullied for putting too much makeup (people telling me na ang kapal ng makeup mo pero puro ka pa tigyawat) during that time but what they don’t know is makeup na lang ‘yong kakampi ko noon,” she continued.
When changing skincare routine didn’t help, she consulted a specialist who advised her that “less is more.”
The specialist told her that apart from puberty, it was her sensitive skin reacting to all the unnecessary products that she put on her face that led to her massive breakout.
“Nagre-react differently from the products that I used based dun sa mga napapanuod ko na skin care routines sa YouTube,” she said.
Kyline opened up about her beauty struggle to remind others going through the same ordeal not to stress themselves. Being perfect will never happen, she added.
“Accept your uniqueness and use it to your own advantage and represent yourself proudly thru it,” she wrote.
According to Kyline, it’s OK to seek self-improvement “but it’s very important na hindi dapat mawala yung sarili mo in the process of it. Don’t let the norm and society dictates what you should feel and look.”
In an interview with GMA News Online last September, Kyline said she learned to take it easy on skincare products after the incident, now only using a facial wash and moisturizer.
The Kapuso actor will be starring in a film about confidence and accepting oneself, it is titled “Black Lipstick” where she will play a role of a girl who has vitiligo.
According to Mayo Clinic, vitiligo “is a disease that causes the loss of skin color in blotches.”
