Team USA’s basketball stars have all-world talent and all-world bank accounts.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant’s all-conquering squad, packed full of All-Stars, MVPs and NBA champions, are sitting pretty in Group C of the 2024 Olympics after resounding wins over Serbia and South Sudan.

The unbeaten US are expected to wrap up Group C in flawless fashion on Saturday with a routine win against Puerto Rico.

The Americans’ dominance is impressive, but perhaps unsurprising given their vastly superior financial might.

According to Forbes’ calculations, the USA’s 12-man roster has earned $2.5 billion during their time in the NBA – with James leading the way with $479.5 million career earnings and Durant second with $396.7 million.
Meanwhile, Serbia, South Sudan and Puerto Rico have a total of ten players with some form of NBA experience.

Those ten players’ NBA earnings come out at around $335 million — $200 million of which is made up by Serbia’s three-time NBA MVP, Nikola Jokic — around seven times less than Team USA’s combined earnings.

The huge financial disparities paint a pretty clear picture as to what the relative basketball minnows are up against in the French capital.

LeBron’s net worth is valued at $1.2 billion and he’s easily outpaced Michael Jordan in NBA contract value.

Then there’s Steph Curry, who’s appearing in his first Olympics and has already earned more than $354 million while winning four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors.

Reigning NBA champ Jayson Tatum finally got off Kerr’s bench on Tuesday by cracking the starting five.

Tatum has made $120 million, thus far, but will reach $439 million if he plays out his current contract with the Boston Celtics.

In contrast, South Sudan has struggled with funding and none of the team’s players are widely known by United States basketball fans.

South Sudan was introduced as the youngest country in the world against the US before losing 103-86.

Their team — which humbled Puerto Rico 90-79 to open Olympic play — includes former Memphis Grizzlies forward Wenyen Gabriel and Charlotte Hornets forward JT Thor, who together have earned ‘just’ $11 million NBA dollars.

Serbian star’s Nikola Jokic ($198 million NBA earnings), Bogdan Bogdanovic ($99 million), Vasilije Micic ($7.7 million) Marko Guduric ($5 million), Nikola Jovic ($4.5 milllion) and Filip Petrusev ($611k) were supposed to give the US a stern test in the opening Group C game.

But their $335 million combined earnings were no match for the USA’s billions, as Kevin Durant’s game-high 23 points ensured a 110-84 win.

Next up for the uber wealthy Americans is Puerto Rico — a nation who handed LeBron and Team USA a shock opening-round defeat at the 2004 Olympics.

The Caribbean island with a population of around 3.22 million has two NBA players in its ranks, Jose Alvarado and Davon Reed, who have made $9 million in NBA earnings.
