Michael Jordan may have hung up his basketball shoes, but he’s still hitting it big in the competitive world of saltwater fishing. Even in retirement, the NBA legend is proving he’s a fierce competitor on the water as the luxury sportfishing yacht owned by him, Catch 23, was listed as a registered entrant in the White Marlin Open and recently won the competition in the Dolphin category.
And it seems the legend’s son Marcus Jordan is also nothing but hyped up for his father’s boat crew victory at the event as he shared some old snippets of his father enjoying fishing on his Instagram story. Michael Jordan could be seen posing with a fish in his hand and he is all smiles on his luxury yacht.
The pictures on Marcus’ story were posted on the Instagram account of Trophy Room Store which is a retail boutique store founded by the legend’s son himself. It might be surprising for people that after having a net worth of $3.2 billion, the NBA legend is still out there and participates in fishing competitions regularly. Well, MJ’s recent win at the White Marlin Open came with a nice bonus of $64,594.09 prize.
“I would have never thought I would get on a boat and go fishing, but the combination of patience and trying to catch a fish, trying to be patient. It’s not gonna happen. You can’t make it happen. You just got to be ready when it does happen,” said Jordan earlier. The one who started dazzling the court right from the beginning of his career, however, had to grind for his recent victory. Let’s talk about that.
Michael Jordan’s team finally made waves at the White Marlin Open
It wasn’t an easy journey as there have been several attempts made in the past as well. Jordan and his Catch 23 team first dove into the White Marlin Open back in 2019. Fast forward to 2021, and they started making waves. One of their anglers, Trey McMillan, reeled in a 23.5-pound Mahi, earning the team a cool $20,000. This early success hinted at the bigger wins to come.
At last year’s 50th White Marlin Open, John Ols, a Montgomery County resident from Laytonsville, made history. He reeled in a massive 640.5-pound blue marlin, earning a world-record payout of $6.2 million. But this time it was the legend’s turn, as their persistence paid off, proving once again that Jordan knows how to win, whether on the court or at sea.
