Summer is usually a drag for NBA fans, as they have to go months without seeing their favorite stars compete.
Thanks to the 2024 Paris Olympics, we got some incredible basketball as the world suited up to compete for gold.
Team USA brought out their “Avengers” with the best players the country has to offer participating.
This collection of talent created iconic moments like Steph Curry’s night night celebration in the gold medal game and unique interactions, such as Anthony Edwards hanging out with his hero Kevin Durant all over Paris.
Another friendship we saw grow was the LeBron-Steph connection.
The Paris Olympics provided us with the opportunity to see them together in impactful matchups and it did not disappoint.
The chemistry they displayed on the court matched the best-case scenario any basketball fan could ever dream of. The dynamic duo were a big reason why Team USA won the gold in Paris against the French.
In an exclusive interview with People, Steph discussed his experience playing with LeBron and how he hopes to do it again.
“All the battles we’ve had on the court and the back and forth, the fact that we actually got to be teammates, not just in any game like an All-Star game or whatever, but in high stakes basketball with a lot on the line…I think there’s a deepened respect and friendship there,” Curry says while discussing his new investment and partnership with Nirvana Super Waters & Seltzers.
“Hopefully, there will be more experiences in the future, even if we’re teammates or not,” he adds, noting that the two basketball greats “still have to compete against each other until it’s all over” when they return to their respective NBA teams for a new season in October.
Given that both compete in the Western Conference, they’ll most certainly have “experiences in the future” as rivals. Watching how well they gelled on the floor makes it an even more bitter pill to swallow, seeing them return to NBA teams that have been slightly better than .500 the last few years.
Given that LeBron signed a 2-year, $104 million deal with the Lakers this summer and Curry extended his contract with the Warriors until the 2026-27 season, a path towards these two becoming teammates seems far away.
Still, reports indicated that the Warriors inquired about a deal for LeBron James at the trade deadline last year and with both players seemingly fond of the idea of playing together, maybe it’ll happen someday, be it at Golden State, Los Angeles, or elsewhere
For now, the summer fling is over and while it was fun, it’s cuffing season and time to love the one you’re with.
LeBron will be in Southern California pursuing a title with the Lakers and Steph will go up to the Bay and focus on getting his fifth ring with the Golden State Warriors.
