Steph Curry says it was hard getting used to being LeBron’s teammate.

In a recent appearance on The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert, Warriors star Stephen Curry opened up on his experience as LeBron James’ teammate this summer at the Paris Olympic Games. Curry says it took some time to get used to the experience after being LeBron’s biggest competitor for the better part of a decade.

“He asked me the same questions as you: “What’s wrong with your shot? Are you worried about it?’ And my positive self came out and said ‘No we’re winning I know it’s gonna come I know a flurry’s coming.’ And as soon as I said it, LeBron walked right behind me and he’s like ‘damn right it is’ with his baritone voice,” said Steph. “It kinda caught me off guard because I still have to get used to liking that guy cause of all of our battles. Now we’re teammates and it’s cool and it was definitely a confidence boost and, obviously, at the end of the day it came at the right time.”

In his first-ever Olympic run, Stephen Curry joined LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and other NBA elites on a star-studded USA roster. The 36-year-old was expected to be among the leaders of the team both on and off the floor but a sluggish start sowed doubt that he was up for the task.

Of course, we know now that Curry did get his redemption this summer in the final games of the tournament. In the Semi-Finals against Serbia, the 4x champion went off for 36 before dropping a team-high 24 over France in the Gold medal game. Curry finished the tournament with averages of 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 23.3 minutes per game.

Despite a slow start and a top-heavy roster that was capable of filling the gaps, Curry was able to find his stride and keep his place in part due to LeBron James. Coming from the guy he battled in four straight Finals, Curry initially didn’t know how to react to LeBron’s words of encouragement. But as his teammate this summer, Steph learned what life was like on the other side and it didn’t disappoint.

Since the Olympics ended weeks ago, the Warriors star has spoken up several times about the benefits of being LeBron’s ally and it’s no secret that he wants to experience it again before he walks away from the game for good.

Unfortunately for Steph, another tenure as James’ teammate is unlikely given his latest contract extension and the fact that the King is going on 40 years old. But the good news is that the stories of their time together this summer will be endless and we’re already seeing the impact it made on the basketball legends.

Now, as the new season approaches, both players will have to adjust their mindset and realign their loyalties from their country to their teams. For Curry, that’s a nearly unrecognizable Warriors team clinging to the last remnants of a dying dynasty, For LeBron, it’s a Lakers team that’s desperate to take back the West and elevate the King’s legacy at whatever cost.

While they may be friends, LeBron and Steph are enemies on the court once again and they must not relent if they wish to beat the odds and make one final title run.
