Victor Wembanyama is already receiving comparisons to one of the best NBA players of all time.
While the NBA’s GOAT debate rages on ESPN and around the NBA, one thing is true: only two players are really in consideration. Michael Jordan’s legendary run of six titles with the Chicago Bulls has built his case, and LeBron James’s sustained excellence is the core of his argument.

San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama has already been compared to both, and he’s only 20 years old and coming off of his first NBA season.

Before he even entered the NBA, he was compared to LeBron, who was the most hyped draft prospect ever. Wembanyama’s generational potential rivaled ‘The King’s.’

Jordan, on the other hand, carries a bit more mystique. While fans and the media are eager to crown generation-defining potential like Wembanyama and Zion Williamson as the next LeBron, Jordan has largely avoided comparison.

Until now.

After Wembanyama’s dominant 19-point, nine-rebound, two assists, and seven ‘stock’ game against Brazil in his Olympic debut, which France won, there wasn’t really an argument against comparing him to the NBA’s most mythical figure.

“People that like sports but don’t know basketball, they think Victor is already Michael Jordan,” explained France’s coach, Vincent Collet.

When asked if that was an accurate assessment of Wembanyama’s talent, Collet explained, “Ah, he’s not far.”

At only 20 years old, Wembanyama’s elite defense has already placed him at the top of the league’s best defenders, and the unique offense he brings to the table highlights his never-before-seen potential.

Wemby was already compared to James, but now he can add the NBA’s other GOAT to his bag of compliments.
