Willie Ong: Cancer shrank by 60%, miracles happen

Renowned cardiologist and online health advocate Dr. Willie Ong took to social media on Tuesday to share good news on his current health condition.

“Miracles do happen!” Ong said.

Ong posted a photo of his actual positron emission tomography (PET) scan results in a Facebook post.

“Good news: Doc Willie’s sarcoma shrinks by 60% in six weeks,” Ong said in the caption.

He said he remembered that a 16-centimeter mass had been discovered behind his heart, which he revealed to the public last month, was considered ‘inoperable.’’

“A hopeless and terminal case in the brink of death. Well, apparently not for my case,” he said.

Ong said that with the help of his brother and a patient of Dr. Ang Peng Tiam, he flew to Singapore while in serious condition.

“Now, after six weeks of treatment by my Singapore Oncologist, Dr. Ang Peng Tiam, the cancer has shrunk dramatically.”

His doctor said sarcoma was one of the hardest cancers to treat and that “it’s really a miracle.”

“As I have said, curing myself is just half of the battle plan. The important step is FIXING the broken healthcare system in our country,” Ong stressed.

He said he knew there was a reason behind why he had to experience the highs and lows of our healthcare system.

“With your help, we will improve healthcare in our country. And hopefully, make a dent at the widespread corruption plaguing our country,” he added.

On October 3, Ong formalized his senatorial bid in the 2025 midterm elections by having his certificate of candidacy (COC) filed with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Ong’s COC was filed by his wife, Dr. Liza Ong, on his behalf. She emotionally thanked her husband’s supporters for their prayers for his recovery.

Lawyer Gilbert Lauengco, Ong’s legal counsel, said his client would harness social media for campaigning. He also said Ong may return to the country by November to campaign physically.
