Director Cathy Garcia-Molina reveals Alden Richards was hesitant to shoot topless scenes. Alden Richards on shocking bedroom scene with Kathryn Bernardo: “I have to make Kathryn comfortable as well kasi siya po yung babae and, of course, marami rin po siyang kinu-consider, especially when doing scenes.” 

Alden Richards did an unexpected bedroom scene with Kathryn Bernardo for their first movie team-up, Hello, Love, Goodbye.

Without giving too much details about the scene for those who have not yet watched the film, Alden and director Cathy Garcia-Molina described how they shot the shocking scene that takes place inside a hotel room.

According to Alden, who plays Ethan in the film, it was the first scene he shot together with Kathryn, who plays Joy.

“Yun yung first day ko sa pelikula tapos yun nga pong scene na yun and siyempre po, kabado kasi what if kapag napanuod na…ganyan.

“Ibinigay ko lang po kay Kath yung eksena, I really adjusted to her kung saan siya mas comfortable, and also sa instructions ni Direk Cathy kung ano ang dapat gawin.

“Sumunod lang po ako sa instructions kasi siyempre, I have to make Kathryn comfortable as well kasi siya po yung babae and, of course, marami rin po syang kinu-consider, especially when doing scenes.

“But we were able to deliver well naman po doon sa scene na yun and nakakatawa naman po siya.

“It’s really not about the scene, e, kung ano yung andun but yung message ng scene kung bakit nangyari yun, dun po kasi nagsimula lahat. With the guidance of Direk Cathy, the scene went well.”

During the August 1 bloggers’ conference for the movie, Direk Cathy was asked if there was “daya” done in the scene.

She answered with a smile, “Amin na lang yun, trade secrets ang tawag dun, hindi shine-share!”

Direk Cathy then added, “Maraming takes yun, kasi siyempre si Alden, as much as marunong siyang artista, hindi niya pa rin ako kilala.

“As much as marami siyang narinig, hindi niya talaga alam, so ang dami niyang ginagawa na parang, ‘Anong ginagawa mo, Alden?’ So ang dami niyang takes.

“So kung papansinin, kung nandun kayo, the early shoots, mas maraming takes si Alden kasi may effort pa akong nararamdaman, nate-tense, e, so may lumalabas na hindi kailangan. And then I asked him to relax.

“And maraming take one ito si Alden. Lalo na yung mga mas mahihirap at mga mahahabang linyahan, in fairness sa taong ito, kapag pina-memorize, darating siya sa set ko, memorize niya. Hindi pa diva ito, e. Subukan niya!”

SECOND UNEXPECTED SCENE OF KATHRYN AND ALDEN

After that first scene, Kathryn and Alden also did another scene that could surprise their fans and viewers.

Since the scene was a bit daring, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Direk Cathy how she motivated Kathryn who is not used to doing such intimate scenes.

Direk Cathy said, “Doon sa basurahan scene, matagal namin pinag-usapan, so when she came to the set, she was ready, with the permission kung sinuman pinagpaalaman niya, so ready siya.

“Yung pangalawa, she was really scared and trembling.

When they shot the scene, Direk Cathy already allowed Kathryn to see her boyfriend, Daniel Padilla, who visited them during their Hong Kong shoot.

During the press conference for Hello, Love, Goodbye, Kathryn said that she was not immediately allowed to see Daniel during his visit since she had to prepare for a heavy scene.

Direk Cathy continued, “Ang hirap ng eksena kasi kailangan niya humagulgol. E, yung part na yun, medyo nagbati kami ng slight kasi after na yun ng dumating si Daniel sa Hong Kong, so sumaya na siya at medyo nag-lie low ako sa kanya kasi yun na yung panahon na pwede nang sumaya si Joy kasi nagkaroon na ng Ethan sa life niya.

“Nahirapan ako kasi di ko siya madala sa kailangan niya kasi naunang kunan yung iba, tapos huli yun kasi isa yun sa mga medyo dinelay ko hanggang ma-ready siya.

“Wala, e, ganun talaga. So hindi ko na alam, kung anu-ano pinaggagagawa ko.

“Kasi ako, hindi ako naninigaw ng artista para umiyak, e. Hindi ako ganyan, e, pero lahat yata, pinagdaanan ko, ako yung nahirapan ako yung humagulgol.

“Pero alam niya, sabi ko, ‘See, anak that’s why it’s very difficult na ang mga artista, hindi pwede nagsasara ng sugat, e, kasi yun ang mga kinikilkil mo pag kailangan mo silang hugutan.

“So kailangan laging may fresh wounds kaya noon, mukhang nagsara at naghilom, kailangan ko kutkutin. Ang hirap. Pero kapag ito naman, nagawa mo ng tama, you will reap the fruits of your labor.”

Direk Cathy pointed out that Alden had a passive role in the sensitive scene of Kathryn: “Siyempre, siya [Alden] doon, walang masyadong ganap, alam niyo naman yun, isa lang siyang katawang lupa.

“Pero I will commend Kathryn for pagiging brave and ito na, tumatanda na talaga itong batang ito.

“Nagma-mature, naiintindihan ang mas maraming bagay, nalalaman niya na kung bakit kailangan ng ibang eksena at hindi. Ang lagi ko naman pangako, aalagaan ko sila.”

ASKING PERMISSION FROM DANIEL PADILLA

Since Kathryn had to do shocking scenes with Alden in Hello, Love, Goodbye, did Direk Cathy ask permission from Daniel to allow his girlfriend to do these sensitive scenes?

Direk Cathy answered, “Ang totoo, siyempre, pinagpaalaman ang mga kailangang pagpaalaman, kailangang magpasintabi.

“But it’s up to Kathryn kung kanino siya magpapapaalam.

“As much as I respect DJ at kaibigan ko siya, si Kathryn ang dapat kasi siya ang mas involved with him, di ba?

“So alam ni Kathryn na what’s going to happen, alam ni mommy, we discussed it and alam naman ni mommy na aalagaan ko yung eksena. Diyos ko, e, anak ko yan, e, so alam nila na aalagaan ko.

“And Alden is a gentleman being, so siya na [Kathryn], kung kanino man siya nagpaalam, maraming salamat sa lahat ng pumayag.

“Hala, nagwa-wonder sila, parang sinasabi ko na kung ano yun, mali po, hindi po yun!”

As for Alden, he has been vocal in saying that he texted Daniel before he started shooting the movie with Kathryn.

“Well, actually, hindi naman na po lingid sa kaalaman na I really texted him personally before we started and asked and thanked him for letting Kath do a movie with me.

“Doon naman po kasi sa scene na yun, it’s really more of si Kath and si Direk yung tinitignan ko, e.

“Hinihintayan ko po ng go signal kasi susunod lang po ako, kasi since it’s my first take, talagang ako po yung dapat mag-adjust dito.

“That’s what I told myself, hindi ako pwedeng mag-impose ng kung anong dapat gagawin, so kumbaga ako po, I will do my job, gagawin ko po yung trabaho ko, gagawin ko po yung role ni Ethan doon sa scene na yun and it’s up to Kath and Direk kung ano man yung mga pwede at hindi pwedeng gawin.”

ALDEN’S TOPLESS SCENES

Alden admitted that he had to lose weight for the movie, especially after Direk Cathy told him during the look test that he needed to look slimmer for the camera.

Hello, Love, Goodbye‘s trailer showed Alden being topless, which is connected to one of his shocking scenes with Kathryn.

PEP.ph then asked the GMA-7 actor if that was the reason why he was asked to lose weight.

“Yes, actually. Talagang siopao kasi yung mukha, e, so talagang…

“Kasi sa sobrang tagal ko na rin na nagsasabi na maglu-lose ako ng weight, papagandahin ko na yung katawan ko, talagang si Direk lang talaga yung may karapatang magsabi ng oras na yun na mataba ako at mag-lose ng weight.”

Direk Cathy then revealed that Alden was actually hesitant about going topless in some of his scenes.

She said, “Pero tignan niyo naman, meron pa ring konti noong mga panahon na yun, di ba?

“So ayaw niya talagang maghubad. Sabi niya, ‘Direk, nakakahiya!’

“Sabi ko, ‘Hindi ko binebenta ang katawan mo dito!’

“I mean that is not the point of the scene and he understood. Kapag may mga tao kasing ayaw, di ba, nahihiya kasi di maganda katawan nila, hindi ko naman kailangang maging maganda ang katawan mo and nag-trust din naman si Alden, wala namang tumawa sa eksenang yun!”

Alden added, “At saka ano rin po siguro, para maiba na rin yung look kasi syempre medyo halos iisa po yung itsura ko nitong mga huling projects na ginawa ko.

“Para maiba lang, para maging totoong taga-Hong Kong.”
