The name Mike Tyson does not need any introduction. He is widely considered to be one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time and is certainly one of the biggest stars that the sport has ever seen.
However, Mike Tyson’s fighting career wasn’t always glamorous. He often found himself among controversies. One such incident happened during his rematch against Evander Holyfield.
Back in 1997, Tyson entered the squared circle against Holyfield in a highly anticipated rematch. During the fight, he found himself on the receiving end of a significant amount of flak for biting Holyfield’s ear. Tyson was initially slapped with a two-point penalty, however, ‘Iron Mike’ was subsequently disqualified after he bit Holyfield for the second time in the same fight.

Moreover, the Nevada State Athletic Commission revoked Mike Tyson’s boxing license for a brief period. In addition to the ban, Tyson was handed the biggest fine the Commission could levy. He got a $3M fine or 10% of the $30M fight purse that he was offered to fight Evander Holyfield.
Later, Mike Tyson admitted that his actions were a result of his frustrations. Having been outboxed during the initial rounds of the fight, he could not prevent himself from inflicting damage on Evander Holyfield.
