David Beckham shared that he checked on Tom Brady after his epic roast just to see if he was okay on Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.
Jimmy, 56, first asked David, 49, if he would ever let himself be brutally roasted like Tom, 46, was during a Netflix comedy special on Sunday.
‘No,’ David said. ‘I know Tom well and I must admit I did fire him a message just to check he was okay.’
‘Is he okay?’ Jimmy asked.
‘More than okay, but yeah it was hard to watch,’ David said.

The English soccer legend showed up holding a jar of his own honey that he gave to Jimmy.
‘You own the Miami football club, how many owners?’ Jimmy later asked.
‘There’s three of us,’ David said. ‘Myself and two brothers, Jorge and Jose Mas.’
Jimmy asked if the team was more successful than he thought it would be.
‘I always hoped that it would be this successful and obviously bringing someone like Leo helps. So obviously that was always the plan, but you never know,’ David said, referencing Lionel Messi.
‘Are you aware how popular he is?’ asked Jimmy, who shared that even his seven-year-old son Billy was Messi crazy.
‘It’s just that effect that Leo has on the game and the world,’ David said. ‘One of the reasons why we wanted to bring him to America was to inspire the next generation. That was my plan. I obviously wanted to bring him for the player he is and the person he is. I played against him numerous times, actually twice, thankfully, but I’ve been a fan of his and watched him for many years, and I always had the plan to bring the greatest player whoever played in the game, in my opinion, to our team and luckily it happened.’

Jimmy asked if he thought Lionel Messi was the greatest player.
‘Everyone’s got their own opinions but for me personally…there’s a lot of great players who have played the game over the years but in my opinion he’s the perfect player,’ David said.
Jimmy asked how he convinced Messi to come out to Miami.
‘Well, I could actually come at him and with him with my experience of coming to America and my experience of coming to a league that at that time wasn’t established like it is now,’ David said. ‘There were only 13 teams in the league. Now there’s almost 30. And it’s in a different position than what it was back then when I first came.’
David added that ‘he’s always loved Miami. He always loved the idea of the project of bringing the game even bigger in this country. And when you bring someone like that to America people notice.’
Jimmy agreed that Americans noticed when David showed up.
Jimmy asked David about putting together his wife Victoria’s 50th birthday party. Jimmy then played a clip of Victoria singing with the other Spice Girls at the party as David filmed.
‘How long had it been since they sang together,’ Jimmy asked.

‘It’s actually been 12 years since they did the Olympics in the UK but 15, over 15 years since they were actually on the stage together,’ David said. ‘So obviously having them all there that night and I didn’t expect them to all get on stage. But I had a whole video planned where me and my kids recreate the Mama video. So my son who plays the guitar and sings had a song and he sang Mama then all of the sudden all the girls got up.’
‘And I’m their biggest fan, I tend to not tell my wife that, I tend to tell her I fancied her when she was a Spice Girl,’ David said. ‘I love that about her.’
‘I’m sure she loved the fact that you were on a team too,’ Jimmy said. ‘I loved your documentary.’
‘We’ve been together for 27 years in July,’ David said . ‘We’ve been married for 25 so it’s our 25th wedding anniversary in July.’
David said people have wanted him to do a documentary for a long time.
‘I said for my 10-year anniversary of my retirement, I want to do the documentary,’ David said. ‘That was really the plan but then when we did it, it was amazing.’
David said he planned to watch the documentary by himself on a big screen.
‘When I watched it that morning, I didn’t really like it,’ David said. ‘I didn’t enjoy watching it.’

David said he planned for Victoria to watch it at the premiere, but then changed that and got her to watch it that night with him.
‘We literally sat in bed with an iPad and we watched two hours of rough edit and we got to the end of it and we looked at each other and we were so emotional – it was like we laughed, we cried, we were tired, because had done so much in that 27 years,’ David said. ‘That was really the moment where I fell in love with the documentary. Because I knew that she loved it and that meant more to me.’
Jimmy said he learned that David is a neat freak from the documentary.
‘Yeah, I’m a little bit OCD,’ David said.
‘More than a little bit like are you looking around now wanting to clean stuff up,’ Jimmy asked.
‘A little bit,’ David said. ‘In all honesty that is what I’m like. Victoria always jokes because when we have our friends around for dinner or drinks, I start turning lights off and cleaning the candles.’
David said he cleans the candle wicks and the outside of the glasses.
Jimmy played a clip from the Netflix documentary. David said his father taped all his games and kept all of his newspaper cuttings and that his mother was the same.
David said his mother once found out what room this journalist was in at a hotel who kept writing not nice things about his game so his mother found out what room he was in.
‘So she put every dinner, every drink on his room,’ David said.

Jimmy said he felt sorry for him in parts watching the documentary.
‘It was difficult,’ David said. ‘Recently we were in a pub in London and I came out and on the windscreen of my car was a note, no name on it, just ”we are so sorry for the way we treated you”.’
‘Do you ever talk to Travis Kelce and say ‘hey man here’ what you have to expect?’ Jimmy asked referencing the football star dating Taylor Swift.
‘I think he can handle it,’ David said.
