It’s been a very rough week for Deontay Wilder as he had to deal with the first loss of his career after one of trainers threw in the towel in the seventh round in the WBC heavyweight fight against Tyson Fury. He then made it worse by blaming his walk-in costume for not having any legs after the second round.
There were also reports of him possibly parting ways with Mark Breland, but he made the decision on Friday that he’s had a change of heart.
“I’m a warrior,” Wilder told ESPN’s Dan Rafael in a statement. “I feel the same way I felt on fight night. If I have to go out I want to go out on my shield.
“But I understand that my corner and my team has my best interest at heart. Mark Breland is still a part of Team Wilder.”
“So I told my team to never, ever, no matter what it may look like, to never throw the towel in with me because I’m a special kind,” Wilder said. “I still had five rounds left. No matter what it looked like, I was still in the fight.
“I understand he was looking out for me and trying to do what he felt was right, but this is my life and my career, and he has to accept my wishes.”
Late on Friday night, Wilder took to social media and released a fiery statement via video, promising to regain the title and rise again.

“Hello, my people, my Bomb Squad Army, my Bomb Squad Nation, all my loved ones around the world,” Wilder began. “I just wanted to let you know that I am here. Your king is here. We ain’t goin’ nowhere, for the war has just begun. I will rise again. I am strong. I am a king. They can’t take my pride. I am a warrior. I’m a king that will never give up! I’m a king that will fight to the death. And if anyone don’t understand that, they don’t understand what it is to go to war, don’t understand what it is to fight.
“We will rise again. We will regain the title. I will be back. We will hold our heads up high. Your king is in great spirit. We will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and regain the title! I’ll see you in a few months. For the war has just begun. All my love to all my people.”
Wilder has already stated he would be exercising a rematch clause to fight Fury for a 3rd time.
