Pereira has now won seven of his eight UFC bouts in the past two and half years.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event Zhang Weili retained her strawweight title by unanimous decision against Yan Xiaonan.

Moreover, the night saw Max Holloway knock out Justin Gaethje with seconds remaining to take the symbolic BMF title. UFC commentator Joe Rogan described the finish as the “KO of the century”, while Dana White likened it to a “scene from a movie”.

Weili is thought to have made $2,250,000 (£1,802,362) with her counterpart, Xionan, managing a comparatively low $290,000 (£232,000).
