Vilma Santos approves Kathryn Bernardo, Nadine Lustre for 'T-Bird at Ako' remake

MANILA, Philippines — Veteran actress Vilma Santos fully supports the idea of casting Kathryn Bernardo and Nadine Lustre for the potential remake of her 1982 film “T-Bird at Ako.”

Directed by the late Danny Zialcita, the classic movie stars Vilma as a local bar dancer opposite Nora Aunor’s lawyer Sylvia Salazar. The film is touted as one of the country’s biggest early portrayals of LGBTQ themes in movies.

In an interview with ABS-CBN’s MJ Felipe, Vilma was asked who she would pick to star in a new version of “T-Bird at Ako.”

Kathryn and Nadine for “T-Bird at Ako” Remake? Vilma Santos Approves

Vilma instantly mentioned Kathryn’s name. The reporter informed the seasoned star that fans have been clamoring for Kathryn to be paired with Nadine in at least one project.

“Oh, heaven ‘yan! Heaven ang team na ‘yan, parehong magaling! That’s a good pair,” Vilma said with a smile. It was also mentioned that Nadine wanted to work with her as well.

The actress admitted that she has at least one movie lined up for 2024 and, like she previously told entertainment columnist and radio host Gorgy Rula on DZRH, missed doing films like “Sister Stella L,” “Bata, Bata Pano Ka Ginawa” and “Dekada 70.”

Vilma revealed that received a script that would pair her once again with Nora, which would be their first film project in more than three decades.

She recently won the Best Actress award at the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival for her portrayal in “When I Met You In Tokyo,” opposite Christopher de Leon, their first film together in nearly 20 years.

“When I Met You In Tokyo” also won 4th Best Picture, Best Float and the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence.
