Actress Rufa Mae Quinto turned herself over to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) upon her arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Wednesday after a warrant for her arrest was issued for the alleged unauthorized solicitation of investments involving a local skincare product.
The actress, who came from San Francisco, California aboard a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight, is facing 14 counts of violating the Securities Regulation Code, which states that securities shall not be sold or offered for sale or distribution within the Philippines, without a registration statement duly filed with and approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The company involved is Dermacare, which was also linked to the arrest of actress-entrepreneur Neri Naig.
COOPERATION WITH AUTHORITIES Actress Rufa Mae Quinto (in pink) is escorted by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation upon her arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Jan. 8, 2025. A warrant of arrest was issued against Quinto for her alleged links to an investment scam involving a local skincare product. She has denied the allegation and has since posted bail before a Pasay City court.
According to NBI-NAIA chief Jimmy de Leon, Quinto’s lawyer Mary Louise Reyes reached out to them to arrange her voluntary surrender.
She posted bail at a Pasay City court amounting to P1.7 million.
Quinto denied “any connection to any fraudulent activity.” She released the statement a day after her counsel’s confirmation that she has a standing warrant of arrest.
“Let me state this unequivocally: I have no connection whatsoever to any fraudulent activity and I categorically deny these baseless accusations. If anything, I am also a victim and I am determined to seek justice,” Quinto said.
Quinto emphasized that over the years, she has worked tirelessly to build her career and maintain her untarnished reputation.
“As a public figure, I have always demonstrated professionalism, transparency, and respect for the people and brands I work with. It is dejecting to see my name being dragged through the mud, but I remain steadfast and confident that the truth will soon prevail.”
The comedienne guaranteed that she would cooperate fully with the authorities and face this issue through the proper legal forum.
“Rest assured, I will fight for my name and reputation. To those who have extended their love and support, I am grateful. Let us allow justice to take its course, and I humbly ask for your patience and understanding as the truth unfolds.”
