MANILA — “Pula,” starring celebrity couple Coco Martin and Julia Montes, made its world premiere on the streaming platform Netflix on Friday.

Montes took to Instagram to share the good news about their movie. “Surprise everybody! Ang ‘PULA’ ay nasa NETFLIX na … Na-miss niyo bang mapanuod si Coco in his acting prowess … let’s all watch the intense story of ‘PULA’ directed by Brillante Mendoza,” she wrote.

Set in the devoutly Catholic town of Pula, “Pula” delves into themes of faith, fanaticism, and vigilante justice. It follows the story of Senior Master Sergeant Danilo Faraon (Martin) and his family as they navigate a tragic event that rocks their close-knit community. The murder of a teenage girl propels Faraon into a web of deceit, betrayal, and guilt, leading him on a path of retribution against those he perceives as wrongdoers in the town of Pula.

In addition to Montes and Martin, the star-studded cast also includes Raymart Santiago, Lotlot De Leon, Alan Paule, Elizabeth Oropesa, Christine Bermas, Ina Alegre, and Vince Rillon.

“The premiere of ‘Pula’ on Netflix marks a moment of profound gratitude for me. It transcends accolades and recognition, offering the chance to connect with a global audience. Normally, after my film is showcased at prestigious festivals worldwide, people are having a hard time finding where to watch my films. Now, Netflix provides a platform for the film’s story to touch hearts across the globe. My deepest satisfaction as a filmmaker comes from the knowledge that diverse audiences embrace my work. I hope that viewers not only enjoy ‘Pula’ but also discover a reflection of themselves in its story,” Mendoza told Variety.
